7. Select appropriate plant species and varieties a. High-quality nursery-grown stock b. Selected from " Preferred Tree Species for South Central Kansas ", or the "Landscape Ordinance Guidebook" c. Hardy in light and soil conditions where sited, appropriate at mature size for their location d. A t least 1/3 coniferous or broadleaf evergreen species, to provide year-round effects e. Incorporate variety as well as repetition and massing 8. Minimum sizes at installation: a. Shade trees: ≥ 2" caliper, measured 6" above ground b. Ornamental trees: ≥ 1 ½ " caliper, measured 6" above ground

c. Conifer/evergreen trees: 6' minimum height d. Shrubs: Minimum 2-gallon container size 9. Minimum clearances for plants at mature size: a. Shade trees (over 25 foot height at maturity) — measured from center of trunk: • 8 feet from curbs, driveways, sidewalks, streetlights, and power poles (Exception if root barrier materials approved by SPRC are installed.) • 6 feet from buried utility lines b. Ornamental trees ( ≤ 25 foot height at maturity) — measured from center of trunk: • 6 feet from curbs, driveways, sidewalks, streetlights, and power poles (Exception if root barrier materials approved by SPRC are installed.) • 4 feet from buried utility lines c. No shade trees beneath overhead utility lines, or in drainage or utility easements d. O rnamental trees may be planted beneath overhead utility lines, if mature height is less than the height of the overhead line

e. 7' minimum vertical clearance between pedestrian sidewalks and underside of tree canopy f. G roundcovers, perennials and shrubs i nstalled and maintained so they do not overhang structures 10. Irrigation a. All landscape areas provided with readily available permanent water supply (Exception: Not required for undisturbed established trees and natural areas) (Exception: Drought-tolerant plants may use temporary irrigation, for first 2 growing seasons) b. Rain sensor(s) c. Avoid overspray and pooling
