119 What a Friend We Have in Jesus What a friend we have in Jesus All our sins and griefs to bear What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer
120 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of Glory died My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast Save in the death of Christ, my God All the vain things that charm me most I sacrifice them to His blood See from His head, His hands, His feet Sorrow and love flow mingled down Did e’er such love and sorrow meet Or thorns compose so rich a crown Were the whole realm of nature mine That were an offering far too small Love so amazing, so divine Demands my soul, my life, my all
Oh, what peace we often forfeit Oh, what needless pain we bear All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer Have we trials and temptations Is there trouble anywhere We should never be discouraged Take it to the Lord in prayer Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share Jesus knows our every weakness Take it to the Lord in prayer Are we weak and heavy-laden Cumbered with a load of care Precious Savior, still our Refuge Take it to the Lord in prayer Do thy friends despise, forsake thee Take it to the Lord in prayer In His arms He’ll take and shield thee Thou wilt find a solace there Words by Joseph M.
