El concurso definió un anteproyecto para el nuevo edificio de la facultad en el Campus Isla Teja de Valdivia. El primer lugar lo obtuvo HLPS, con un edificio de 5.600 m² que aspira a convertirse en un hito del lugar.
The competition defined a blueprint for the new faculty building at the Isla Teja Campus in Valdivia. The first place went to HLPS, with a 5,600 m² building that aspires to become a campus landmark.
Considering the urban importance of the location, the gravitating aspect in the evaluation of the proposals was the appropriate integration with the built and natural surroundings. The Eduardo Morales Avenue sector where the new building will be located is characterized as the urban center of the campus. Therefore the proposals were to consider public meeting places and a design that would contribute to the overall image of the area. The winning project presented clarity of concept and structure. It consists of a nine-story rotated cube relative to the main street of the campus. Its open floor plan with a covered central void can accommodate the entire program and an accurate functional arrangement of its parts. The height and position of the volume gives the building an iconic value that is well articulated with the surrounding green areas and the Emilio Pugin Building.
Aspecto gravitante en la evaluación de las propuestas fue su adecuada integración con el entorno, tanto construido como natural, dando cuenta de la importancia urbana del emplazamiento. El sector de la Av. Eduardo Morales donde se situará el nuevo edificio tiene características de centro urbano del campus, por lo que debía considerar lugares públicos de intercambio y un diseño que constituyera un aporte a la imagen total del enclave. En el proyecto ganador se valoró su claridad conceptual y estructural. Consiste en un cubo de nueve pisos girado respecto a la calle principal del campus. Su planta libre con un vacío central cubierto permite acoger la totalidad del programa y una correcta disposición funcional entre sus partes. La altura y posición del volumen confiere un valor icónico al edificio que se articula bien con las áreas verdes circundantes y con el Edificio Emilio Pugin.

El campus es todavía una agrupación de construcciones dentro de un parque y construye con esto su propio valor, el cual va más allá de edificios entendidos como piezas aisladas. Cualquier desarrollo futuro debiera mantener esta condición y por lo tanto la escala adecuada de intervención está dada en cuanto cuide el territorio y se mantenga como intervención puntual dentro del paisaje. The campus still manages to group a valuable set of buildings in a park, with units that go beyond being understood as isolated parts. Any future development was to maintain this condition. The appropriate scale of intervention is therefore the one that preserves the existing order and represents a specific intervention in the landscape.

Propuesta de Master Plan en base a la construcción de dos edificios aislados que en total suman 11.200 m², ocupando la menor superficie en la planta, conservando el total de la arborización y transformando la manzana en un parque dentro del campus. Master plan proposal based on the construction of two free-standing buildings of 11,200 m² in total, with the smallest possible footprint to preserve all existing trees and transforming the block into a park within the campus.
