A través de una serie de recorridos cubiertos que conectan el edificio con las calles principales adyacentes se plantea generar un sistema de recorridos públicos que rodee al nuevo edificio pero que permita, más allá de su propio programa, la conexión entre la Av. Eduardo Morales con el sector oriente y sur del terreno en el cual hoy se ubican el Instituto y Escuela de Biología Marina, Turismo, la sala cuna y el Invernadero Kay. El proyecto busca principalmente implementar sistemas pasivos para acondicionar los espacios. Estos se resumen principalmente en la conservación de la energía, la obtención de ganancia solar directa y ventilación natural. El volumen comprimido del edificio produce un mejor aprovechamiento de las energías pasivas, así como un mejor aprovechamiento del calor entregado por sistemas de calefacción.
A series of covered walkways connecting the main building with the adjacent main streets generate a System of Public Circulations to surround the new building while allowing –in addition to its own programmatic requirements– the connection between Eduardo Morales Avenue and the area east and south of the site where the Institute and School of Marine Biology, Tourism, the nursery and the Kay Greenhouse are located today. The project primarily aims to implement passive systems to condition the spaces. These are mainly summarized in the conservation of energy, the production of solar gains and natural ventilation. The compact volume of the building makes better use of passive energy sources and a more efficient use of the heating systems.
