Safeguard Your Family’s Future Using Trusts
When people begin the estate planning process, they usually do so to protect their assets and set their children and grandchildren up for success. An estate plan helps you safeguard everything you worked for and distribute your assets to your loved ones. However, many people believe they only need a will, and everything else is just extra, but this is rarely the case. Wills have become synonymous with estate planning thanks to pop culture, but in reality, wills are the bare minimum for most people’s estate planning needs. A will only comes into effect after you’ve passed away. If you become incapacitated, your health care and durable powers of attorney act in your place, which can complicate things. Having a will does not guarantee you’ll avoid probate, either. If you want to safeguard your family and assets fully, consider establishing a trust instead of just having a will. With a trust, you have more freedom and control over the management of your assets. There are different types
of trusts to fit everyone’s specific needs, but they all fall into two categories: revocable and irrevocable. A revocable trust can be changed anytime during the owner’s lifetime. An irrevocable trust is set in stone as soon as you sign the agreement. One of the best parts about trusts is how they help keep your money in the family for generations. Many don’t realize it until they go through probate, but extreme taxes and fees arise after you pass away. Without proper planning, the value of your estate can dwindle to nothing as your family pays these fees, leaving minimal amounts for them. This is not what you want to happen to your loved ones. While trusts can be slightly more expensive than other estate planning options, their benefits are endless. Call us if you have any questions about trusts or want to create one to protect your family and assets.
MEET YOLANDA, OUR NEW WELCOME TEAM COORDINATOR A NEW STAR SHINES
At Shoup Legal, our Welcome Team is here to help our clients as soon as they call our office or walk through our doors. We couldn’t do what we do without our fantastic team, and they continue to exceed expectations with everything they do. In May, we added Yolanda to our team as our new Welcome Team Coordinator, and she has been wowing us and our clients since day one. For nearly 20 years, Yolanda worked as a mortgage banker. In 2010, she decided to start a new venture and began working as an interpreter for Spanish- speaking workers’ compensation clients since she is fluent in Spanish. She would attend clients’ medical appointments and any deposition preparation meetings to interpret for them and ensure they fully understood everything said. She learned a great deal about the legal field while in this position.
Yolanda began working as a veterinary recruiter after working as an interpreter for several years. She helped link veterinary students with potential job opportunities, attempting to place them in their dream offices. While she enjoyed this job, she quickly realized she missed working in the legal field, which led her to Shoup Legal. Yolanda started working with us this past May and has showcased her customer service skills daily since joining our team. Yolanda loves interacting with and assisting clients, especially when she can help a Spanish-speaking client understand a concept that didn’t previously make sense to them. She’s friendly, easy-going, and will listen intently to our clients’ needs so she can deliver the best service possible. She knows from experience how difficult it can be after losing a loved one and wants to comfort all who need it.
Outside of work, Yolanda loves horseback riding and spending time with her family. She and her husband have seven grandchildren, with Yolanda’s youngest being 2 years old. They definitely stay busy with their kids and grandchildren.
We’re so excited to have Yolanda on the team and watch as she grows in her new role!
