Celebrate our Green Flag gems Apley Woods Local Nature Reserve Apley Woods is a tranquil retreat with historic roots and striking sculptures nestled among accessible paths. Discover its fine collection of trees, from specimens planted in the Victorian era to species from around the world. Bowring Park One of the Borough’s oldest parks, it blends heritage with activity. With all-weather tennis courts, football pitches, play area and a cafe, it’s a lively hub for families and sports lovers alike. Dothill and Shawbirch Local Nature Reserve This expansive 54-hectare nature reserve is a haven for wildlife, featuring pools, wetlands, woodlands, meadows and the popular 50 Tree Trail.
As the leaves change colour and the air crisps, our Borough’s parks and nature reserves have plenty to offer for all the family this autumn. Telford & Wrekin Council is thrilled to hold a record eight Green Flag awards meaning our green spaces are among the best in the UK and the world. The scheme, run by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises parks that are welcoming, safe, environmentally friendly and community-focused. Across our Borough there are more than 300 green spaces the Council has committed to protect for the future and it has declared 20 Local Nature Reserves.
Dale End Park Set against the dramatic backdrop of Ironbridge Gorge, Dale End Park offers riverside walks and heritage-inspired play equipment. Hartshill Park Once a colliery spoil tip, it now features wildflower areas and a memorial cross at the entrance which is especially poignant This urban park is a valuable community asset for all ages. There are tennis courts which can be hired all year-round and a play area. Visit the memorial garden and admire the seasonal bedding displays. Victoria Park in November. Dawley Park Newly awarded its first Green Flag, Victoria Park has a rich canal heritage and features a rare 1840s wharf shed. Telford Town Park The crown jewel of Telford’s green spaces, the Town Park has held its Green Flag for a decade. It spans 150 hectares with play zones and nature trails, and even a mini golf course. Enjoy the changing colours along woodland trails and sensory gardens.
