Welcome Telford and Wrekin is a place we’re proud to call home and everything we do as a Council is shaped by that pride. This magazine offers a snapshot of how we’re working differently: protecting what matters, caring for our communities and investing in a brighter future for everyone who lives here. From restoring heritage buildings to breathing new life into places like Wellington swimming pool and the market hall, Telford Theatre building in Oakengates or the exciting Station Quarter development in the town centre these projects are creating new opportunities for education, training, jobs and much-needed homes. There is clear growth and positive change happening across the Borough. At the same time, our green spaces remain central to life here. For the third year running, we’ve been recognised as a ‘Tree City of the World’, with award-winning parks and a packed programme of arts, sports and culture for everyone to enjoy all delivered with one of the lowest council tax rates in the Midlands. And with bus fares capped at just £2, getting there is easier than ever. We’re especially proud of the new Armed Forces Hub, offering drop-in support for anyone in the Borough with a military connection just one example of the many services available to our residents.
From yoga in the park to hundreds of free activities for young people during school holidays, this edition is full of examples of the support and opportunities open to everyone who calls Telford and Wrekin home. We strive to deliver real value, high-quality services and a place where everyone can thrive. From being named Council of the Year (now three times) to receiving back-to back Outstanding Ofsted ratings for our children’s services, alongside a host of other accolades, we hope that across our high streets and through every team, we’re making a meaningful mark and living up to the high standards you rightly expect. I hope you enjoy reading our latest magazine, which reflects just a fraction of the help, support and opportunities available to everyone who lives in Telford and Wrekin.
