Junior Alleynian 2025

Eco Committee

At the beginning of the year, every pupil in the Junior School had the opportunity to apply for a variety of leadership roles, including a position on the Eco Committee. Interested students completed a short application form, explaining why they would make strong representatives and sharing their passion for protecting the environment.

Once elected, Eco Committee members were given a platform to voice their ideas on how the Junior School (and even the wider College) could become more sustainable. Through regular meetings, the committee worked together to lead initiatives focused on improving sustainability within their year groups, including better waste disposal and energy conservation. They also collaborated with Mr George, the College’s Sustainability Data Analyst, to help bring their ideas to life. Some of the year’s highlights include working behind the scenes for introduction of food waste bins in the playgrounds and preparing for a visiting speaker. The Eco Committee played a key role in starting the process of getting food waste bins for each playground and designing signage to encourage their use for the next academic year. Additionally, the committee prepared thoughtful questions for guest speaker Marisa Drew, Chief Sustainability Officer at Standard Chartered, whose talk has been postponed to October next year.
