Tennis n Tennis continues to grow in popularity and standard at DCJS, with boys regularly attending lunchtime clubs across all three terms, whatever the weather, and sharpening their skills in friendly competition with their classmates. This year, the Junior School boys took part in more fixtures than ever and were able to show off their talents against opposition from other schools.
The first official Tennis fixtures of the year to take place were the Junior School House Tennis competitions, in which a record a number took part and scored points for their House. The level of tennis on show was very impressive and it was clear to see the hard work at co-curricular clubs paying off. The competitions culminated in a doubles format competition, which saw Grenville take home first place in Year 5/6 and Drake win the ultimate prize in Year 3/4. Then came time for the boys to put their skills to the test against their counterparts from other schools, starting with the Year 3s and 4s playing hosts to DPS. For the majority of the boys taking part, it was their first experience of a competitive tennis fixture and it was a pleasure to see them implementing the DCJS values on the court, in a closely contested and highly skilled contest. Ther Year 5s and 6s hosted DPS the following week in an equally competitive and entertaining affair. It looks as though the future of Tennis at both schools is in good hands, and I am looking forward to seeing many more contests against DPS for our Junior School in the coming years. The final Junior School fixture of the year saw Eren, Isaac and Theo travel to Kingsway on a Saturday morning to face off against KCS Wimbledon along with their peers and a couple of older brothers in the Senior School. The boys did an excellent job representing the College on and off the court, and it was fantastic to see them involved in weekend fixtures, giving them a taste of life to come in the Lower School.
