There is also guidance aimed at employers of apprentices online. This includes social media messages, a blog post and sample wage calculations to help employers to put things into practice.

HMRC publishes Agent Update 86 16 July 2021

The latest Agent Update issue has been published by HMRC.

The update is aimed at tax agents and advisers with the purpose of providing them with the latest news and guidance.

A couple of the information pieces are included below, but you can read the Agent Update in full here.

The status of tax policy consultations

Recently, there have been several consultations and calls for evidence which could majorly impact the work that payroll professionals carry out.

Prime examples would be the Raising standards in the tax advice market consultation, and the Tax administration framework and Timely payment calls for evidence.

A document is available relating to the status of ongoing and closed tax policy consultations, to show what progress is being made on each consultation. This could prove to be very useful to anyone who submitted a response to these documents, or who monitors ever-evolving tax policy.

Further support for agents on off-payroll working rules

HMRC is providing support to those who need help in understanding and complying with the off-payroll working rules.

A new YouTube video is available that discusses how changes to off-payroll working rules could potentially affect businesses that engage with contractors.

A new webinar will be made available on the topic of the Check Employment Status for Tax (CEST) tool. Information on how to register can be located online. Additionally, HMRC has included links from certain questions in the tool to its webchat so that customers can liaise with an advisor where they are finding it difficult to answer a question.

Information is still being communicated via LinkedIn, including links to flow charts for organisations and contractors who ned to understand offshore elements of the rules.
