The test the legislation refers to mustn't be an antibody test, and should be carried out to detect viral antigens/viral ribo-nucleic acid (RNA). The law initially applied in the United Kingdom during the 2020/21 tax year, but was extended for 2021/22. Now it has been extended further for 2022/23. It's still temporary and won't be in effect from April 2023 unless another extension follows.

Fraudsters target personal tax accounts Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has issued a press release which focuses on a new type of fraudulent activity currently taking place. Individuals are being told not to share any of their personal information online. This is to prevent their identities being used to claim false Self-Assessment tax refunds. Criminals have been collecting Government Gateway logins, along with other personal information to submit bogus tax refund claims and keep the money themselves. Many people have been targeted via social media, ranging in age from teenagers to pensioners. They’re promised a cut of the tax refund ‘risk - free’ in exchange for allowing the fraudsters to ‘borrow’ their identities. This could mean these individuals are inadvertently involving themselves in tax fraud.
The message is to either deal with HMRC directly or through a tax advisor when it comes to Self-Assessment tax refunds, to reduce the risk of fraud.
The key information fraudsters are asking for (which shouldn’t be provided) includes:
Government Gateway credentials Bank account details Passport number Driving licence details Address Date of birth National Insurance number.
In February 2022, HMRC arrested four people in connection with suspected Self-Assessment repayment fraud and money laundering offences.

Only two weeks left to switch Post Office card accounts 22 March 2022
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) warn that there are still 6,800 Post Office account customers who need to switch account to avoid disruption to their benefit payments.
Tax credits, Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance payments cannot be made to Post Office accounts from 6 April 2022. If customers already have an alternative account, they should contact HMRC with these as soon as possible to prevent any issues with payment. Child Benefit and Guardian’s Allowance customers can use their Personal Tax Account to provide revised account details, change their bank account details via GOV.UK or by contacting the Child Benefit helpline on 0300 200 3100. Tax credits customers can change their bank account details by contacting the tax credits helpline on 0345 300 3900. If customers cannot open a bank account, they should contact HMRC.
Since October 2019, HMRC has managed to ensure 143,000 accounts have provided updated details. If the 5 April deadline is missed, payments will be paused until new details are received by HMRC.
