Investigators were not able to locate genuine company expenses equating to £37 million that had been paid out from the company’s account between the periods of February and December 2017 due to the distinct la ck of relevant records. They were also unable to determine the fundamental reasons for the company’s failure. Scott Rooney appeared at the High Court on 1 March 2021 in front of Judge Jones, at which point he was disqualified as a company director for 11 years. Judge Jones felt the length of time the ban was imposed for was appropriate to the severity of Mr. Rooney’s lack of co -operation and his failure to keep the correct records. Shared Parental Leave and Pay tools 22 June 2021
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has launched new tools online to help individuals to establish if they are eligible for Shared Parental Leave and Pay, and also to help parents to decide how to share the leave that is potentially available to them. Employers may also use the tool to help their staff .
The eligibility tool should take no more than five minutes to complete and transforms the complex rules into one simple process. The planning tool can also be completed in a relatively small amount of time, but it is anticipated that parents and employers will revisit the tool as they decide on the dates that the parents wish to take for Shared Parental Leave.

Face-to-face right to work checks to resume from 1 September 2021 22 June 2021
The Home Office has confirmed that face-to-face right to work checks and the checking of physical documents will now resume from 1 September 2021.
The physical checks were due to begin again from 21 June 2021, in line with previous lockdown restriction easement dates, but this has been delayed due to the Government’s announcement on 14 June 2021 confirming the extension of easement dates. It is hoped that by resuming face-to-face checks from a later date, organisations will have sufficient time to prepare for the changes and to put appropriate measures in place to allow for safe face-to-face document checks. This will be welcome news for businesses who were calling for face-to-face checks to recommence from a later date. There are, however, many businesses who maintain that a permanent digital right-to-work check service should be set up, and that there should be no requirement for physical right to work document checks in the future.
What the latest news means is that, until 1 September 2021, right to work checks can still be carried out via video call. Similarly, both job applicants and current workers will be able to provide scanned documents or photos of documents
