CIPP Quick Poll results: Do you think flexible working should be a day one right? 28 October 2021 On 23 September 2021 the Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy (BEIS) released a consultation asking if flexible working should be the default. This topic will have implications on the payroll profession by way of processes, even though flexible working is traditionally under the HR remit. The CIPP put out a Quick Poll to our members to ask if they thought that flexible working should be a day one right. The majority think that it should be a day one right, with 57% of the votes, however a still significant 34% think it should not be. 9% were unsure. With employee wellbeing being more of a focus in many companies, flexible working is here to stay. Companies who fail to adopt flexible working may find recruitment more difficult as workers value this benefit more now than ever before. It may feel counterintuitive to allow changes to contracts on the first day, but these potential changes highlight that flexible working should be discussed during the onboarding process. This allows better employee engagement and wellbeing as part of company culture.

Autumn Budget 2021: Quick Poll 28 October 2021
Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, took to the House of Commons on 27 October 2021 to deliver his second Budget of 2021 – the Autumn Budget. We have listened to the speech and digested the wealth of accompanying documents, but we want to know which announcements will have the biggest impacts on you – the payroll professionals.
To establish this, we have published a new Quick Poll on our News Online page, which will take less than a minute to respond to.
Will the increase to National Living Wage (NLW) have the biggest effect on payroll, or will it be the inflation rate of 4%, which could impact on salary increases? Might it be processing public sector pay increases or the pensions Net Pay Arrangement (NPA) top up that will cause the most work for payroll departments?
Thank you in advance for responding to our latest Quick Poll.
