The pledge to trial a four day working week can be found within the “Fair Work” section of their latest manifesto, which describes the ambition to make Scotland “the best place to live, work, invest and do business”. The manifesto describes the shorter working pattern as a tool to “support people achieve a healthy work - life balance.” Following the trial period, the SNP plan to use the subsequent learning to consider a more general shift towards a four day working week, however this commitment comes with a caveat - “as and when Scotland gains full control of employment rights”. Scotland is not the first country to consider a four-day working week. A successful trial in Iceland which saw a shift to this alternative way of working was deemed a success, and many business across the UK are already using this as part of their flexible working tool kit.

Gender Pay Gap Reporting – 2020-2021 deadline reminder

Since 2017, employers who have a headcount of 250 or above on the relevant ‘snapshot date’ are required to comply with gender pay gap reporting regulations. The calculations are based on employer payroll data, which is drawn from a specific date each year, known as the ‘snapshot date’. Depending on the sector, there are two deadlines: • Most public authority employers must use a ‘snapshot date’ of 31 March and must report and publish their gender pay gap information by 30 March of the following year • Private, voluntary, and all other public authority employers must use a ‘snapshot date’ of 5 April and must report and publish their gender pay gap information by 4 April of the following year. In addition, these employers must also include a written statement Due to the impact of Coronavirus, it was announced that the gender pay gap reporting deadline for 2019-2020 was suspended. Organisations were able to submit this information voluntarily if they wished. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) announced that enforcement of gender pay gap reporting for the 2020- 2021 reporting year (which used a ‘snapshot date’ of 31 March 2020 and 5 April 2020) will not begin until 5 October 2021. Due to this extension, employers will have until 5 October to report gender pay gap figures for the 2020-2021 via Gender pay gap service

More than 100 estate agents are preparing legal action against Purplebricks

Contractors for Justice (C4J) are calling for property agents that have been contracted by Purplebricks to come forward and join the claim. If the claim is successful, and self-employed contractors are found to be treated as employees, then workers could be eligible to receive holiday and pension payments.
Purplebricks operated a business model that utilises self- employed “territory owners” who look after a large geographical area with “local property experts” working under them.
