THE KING’S BUSINESS

PRACTICAL POINTS (1) “Nature abhors a vacuum”—especially a vacant lot. The Lord favors a land when He gives it a tiller. (2) God can see everything, but blood cov- ereth sin. (3) “Wilt thou be angry forever?” The answer is, the Cross’. (4) There is no joy out of God; there is all joy in God. (5) Salvation is not a due—it is a grant. (6) “Show us thy lovingkindness” (R.V.).

That is just what God does and will do. (Eph. 2:7). (7) The way to “get up” a revival, is to “get it down.” (8) When a man once resolves to hear what God has to say, the first word he hears is “peace.” (9) That was a happy meeting when Mercy and Truth met together. (10) That will be a miracle when Truth blooms' on earth and Righteousness plucks it for heaven.

EXPOSITION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

vs. 1,2. “Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word o f the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled (accomplished ) , the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom,, and put it into writing, saying, Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; (All the king doms of the earth hath the LORD, the God of heaven, given me;) and he hath charged me to build him a house at (in) Jerusalem, which is in Judah.” The word of Jehovah is absolutely certain: it is sure to be ful filled to the very letter sooner or later. Seventy years before the Spirit of Jehovah had moved Jeremiah (2 Peter 1:20) to say that in seventy years Jehovah would visit His people in captivity.„in , Babylon and

cause them to return to Jerusalem (Jer. 29:10; 25:12-14; 33:7-13). Now that word is about to be fulfilled literally and exactly. Every prophecy of the Bible is sure of literal fulfilment. There are many prophe cies in the Bible which have not been ful filled as yet, but they will be when the time for their fulfilment has come, just as those the time for whose fulfilment has already come have been fulfilled, to the very letter. Fulfilled prophecy is one of God’s own seals upon the inspiration of the Bible. The infi dels in the Church, and out of it, have done their best to read the prophecies in the Bible out of it, and to read the indisputa ble fulfilment of prophecy out of History, but their Herculean efforts in this direc tion have failed utterly. Some of the argu ments that they have ventured upon in their desperation are pitiably ludicrous. They.
