Twenty-Third Anniversary Week >HE celebration of the Twenty-third Anniversary of the founding of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles has passed into history. It was not made an occasion for glorying in past achieve ments or boasting of anticipated future suc cesses. It seemed more fitting to spend the time

and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wil derness'. and now, lo, l am this day four score and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I zoos in the day that MoSes sent m e : as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out and to come in” (Josh. 14:10, 11). On Friday morning the speaker

in doing each day more earnestly and intensively, the kind of things that come in the ordinary daily program, with this difference, that new voices and new messages gave added zest. It was not thought wise to interrupt all of the regular activities of the Institute, so there were but two services daily, at 10:30 a.m., and 7 :30 p.m. For weeks there had been eager anticipation of the visit of Dr. James M. Gray, the president of the Moody Bible Institute, Chi cago. He was welcomed by many who had been his students in years past, and by not a few of his former fellow laborers. To many others he was known as an editor, educator, and author of large ex perience and abundant success. His first address, at the opening of the week of services, was on Tues day evening, February 25. His theme was. “The Bible—its Au thenticity, its Genuineness, and its Inspiration.” On Wednesday eve ning the subject was “The Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ,” based upon the Epistle to the Colossiaiis. On Thursday night he gave a masterful study in the eighth chapter of Romans showing “how a holy God can make a man holy.” At the morn ing hours on Wednesday and Thursday, Dr. Gray gave an expo

was Rev. John Bunyan Smith, of the First Baptist Church, San Diego. Speaking upon the theme “What Christ Left Earth,” he pointed out that Christ had made the greatest contribution to this world of any man ever born here. Four of these contributions were as follows: (1) The words of Christ, which are spirit and life. (2) The Church of Christ, which He is building, not upon a man or the confession of a mdn, but upon His own deity. (3 ) the world cannot give nor take from those who accept it as a gift. (4) The blood of Christ, which He shed for the remission of sins. On Friday evening a large company of young people from the Los Angeles area gathered in the auditorium to hear Rgy. Louis Et;ans, ’pastor of the.First Pres-, byterian ,iChurch,: Pomona, who stirred their hearts with a message on “Fools for Christ’s Sake.” His graphic description of a life which is1ready to accept suffering for Christ’s sake, and his effective ap peal for definite consecration, will surely not be without glorious re sult. The Anniversary Week closed with a service on Sunday after

sition of the First Epistle to the Thessalonians in a way that did honor to this master of synthetic study of the Bible. - Concerning all of these addresses it can be said that Dr. Gray was at his best. There was evident physical and mental vigor and unction of the Spirit that carried many of his hearers back in memory to days of long ago when this servant of Christ was, as was thought, in his prime. One could scarcely note that there had been any loss in power or fervor. To the present writer it brought to mind the bold claim of Caleb wheii he was facing new con flicts and, by faith, anticipating new victories. “And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty
