Annual Wreath Making Event at SOHS’s Hanley Farm, November 26
Central Point, OR | November 9, 2022 | Press Release C hristmas wreaths date to the Persian Empire, we use the wreath today: Persian wreaths, known as “diadems,” were made of cloth and adorned with gems. As a symbol of power or authority, the diadem was worn by royalty as a headdress. Made of leaves, flowers or twigs woven into a ring, the Egyptian wreath, or “chaplet,” was also worn as a headdress as a sign of victory or authority. In ancient Greece, victorious Roman warriors were awarded wreaths, or “coronas,” to wear on their heads as a symbol of honor. Made of laurel or olive leaf and laurel, wreaths were also hung on doors as a sign of victory. Evolving through the centuries, European Christians celebrated the wreath as a “representation of faith [and] would place a candle on the wreath during Advent to symbolize the light that Jesus brought into the world.” Today’s wreath may mean different things to different ancient Egypt, and ancient Greece. But 16th century wreath purposes differed greatly from the way

Wreath making kits will be available and will provide all the materials you need: grapevines or fruitwood bases, a variety of greenery, cones, berries, and wire. You may also want to bring ribbon, flowers, decorations – items to add as your own personal
