Interim Chief Executive Lee Gregory said it was a momentous occassion for the staff, patients and the community. “Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and its six community health centres have been supporting the good health of local communities since 1933,” he said. “As communities in these areas have grown and evolved, so too has the hospital and the range of health services it provides. “Today it serves an area of some 300,000 people and around 40,000 people seek care from the emergency department each year.”
An emergency department three times the size of the previous department and Australia’s first public robotic pharmacy service are just some of the incredible features at the $265 million redeveloped Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. Health Minister Brad Hazzard, Member for Hornsby Matt Kean and Member for Ku-ring-gai Alister Henskens officially opened the redeveloped hospital, which has been operational in part since December last year. The ministers toured the expanded emergency department (ED) which was put ot the test earlier in the year responding to COVID-19. “The new emergency department is three times the size of the previous ED and has purpose-built isolation rooms, as well as a dedicated emergency unit for children,” Mr Hazzard said. “The entire facility is impressive – from the main entrance, to the new outpatients department, to the intensive care unit and pharmacy.” Mr Kean said the hospital redevelopment has delivered new and expanded health services including additional outpatient services, an updated intensive care unit, onsite educational facilities, and plenty of outdoor green space on the campus for visitors, patients and staff to enjoy. “It is fantastic to see a modern health facility that future generations of Hornsby residents can benefit from,” Mr Kean said.

NEW COMMUNITY SERVICES HUB OPENS Renal dialysis and chemotherapy are on offer for the first time at the hospital. Patients needing dialysis and chemotherapy no longer need to travel, with the services starting in the new community health services building. The building was recently completed and houses dental health, BreastScreen NSW, renal and chemotherapy services.
General Manager Simon Hill said the community has first class services on its doorstep. “The completion of this building marks the redevelopment of the hospital,” Simon said. “We are excited to offer patients these new services which we have never had at Hornsby before.” The building is located next to the main clinical services building and can be accessed via the main entry.
