Fall 2024 Snack of the Month Catalog

Fall Snacks at a Glance October

Celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month with healthy snacks from Wicked Crisps! This veteran-owned company proudly hires folks with mental and physical disabilities.

We’re committed to sourcing snacks that taste good and do good, too. The FruitGuys provides healthy food, meaning, and a reason to gather in your workplace. As a mission-driven, B Corp Certified company, we donate at least 20 percent of the value of our annual profits to relieve hunger and support small farms. Our Snack Program Our snacks come from diverse companies that care about people and the planet. Many of the brands we stock are B Corp Certified, family-owned, or owned by a member of a marginalized community (woman, AAPI, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, or immigrant). Some of them are third-party certified, while others are working toward certification. Snacks of the Month Each month, we choose a unique and delicious snack brand (or two, or three) to feature as our Snack of the Month. You can find featured brands’ treats in our Thoughtful Snack Boxes throughout the month and/or order them by the case. Celebrate diversity and display your company values by offering these snacks in the workplace! In this guide, you’ll learn about this season’s Snacks of the Month and how to enjoy them with your team.

OCTOBER Snack of the Month: Wicked Crisps

After years of working with big-name brands in the snack industry, food scientist Phil Kosak and his business partner (a service-disabled veteran who prefers to remain anonymous) decided to do something different. In 2018, they created a new chip brand to sell better-for-you snacks and help folks with disabilities at the same time. The brand, Wicked Crisps, makes its chips with veggies like peas, sweet potatoes, spinach, and broccoli. The name is a nod to the snack’s deceptive nature. Each savory, salty bite— toasted to perfection in an oven Phil designed— is so tasty you’d never guess it’s good for you.

Phil has prioritized hiring mentally and/or physically disabled workers since 1984. That year, he took a chance and hired his first employee with disabilities. Their work ethic blew him away! Phil became an advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act and has served on various boards and committees including The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Today, more than half of the workers at Wicked Crisps have special needs. Snacking on Wicked Crisps’ Sea Salt and Hummus Crisps is a great way to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Every bite you take will support Phil’s efforts to give more opportunities to disabled workers.

NOVEMBER Snack of the Month: Rule Breaker Snacks

Imagine handing out a business card with the job title “Chief Rule Breaker” on it. That’s exactly what Rule Breaker Snacks Founder Nancy Kalish gets to do! Before starting her New York City-based snack company, Nancy worked as a certified health coach, health journalist, and cookbook editor. She knew the “right” foods to eat and even how to cook— but had a major sweet tooth that steered her health off course. So, she set out to create a plant-based, clean-ingredient brownie to satisfy her cravings. In 2014, Nancy launched Rule Breaker Snacks! Her chickpea-based brownies, cookies, and bites make snacking easier for people with food allergies and dietary preferences. Every treat Rule Breaker makes is vegan (just like Nancy), free from the top eleven allergens, and certified gluten-free,

on-GMO, and kosher.* Plus, did we mention they’re decadent and delicious? Nancy and her team really care about the details, from avoiding allergen and animal product contamination on their production lines to using

sustainably sourced palm oil. When you eat a Rule Breaker snack, you can feel good knowing you’re making a better-for-the-planet choice and supporting a certified woman-owned business run by Nancy and her “Top Dog” Oscar.

*Rule Breaker plans to apply for a vegan certification in the future to make its commitment to plant-based ingredients official. For now, the cost of certification is too prohibitive for Nancy’s small, ten-employee business.

Set Up a Vegan Snack Bar

Host a Vegan Lunch Eating one vegan meal a week—especially if it’s heavy on fruits and vegetables— is great for your team’s health and the planet. Eating one vegan meal a week—especially if it’s heavy on fruits and vegetables—is great for your team’s health and the planet. Per person, each meat-free meal saves about 133 gallons of water and reduces CO2 emissions by roughly 2.5 pounds. That’s a big impact for a single vegan potluck or catered lunch!

For one month only, stock a special spot in your office with vegan snacks! It’s a great way to introduce your team to plant-based alternatives and show them that “healthy” doesn’t mean “boring.” Stock up on Rule Breaker treats and other fun vegan options from The FruitGuys, like Christie’s potato chips, Free2b chocolate cups, and Realsy peanut butter- stuffed dates.

Launch a Wellness Challenge Challenge your team to go vegan for one week, have a plant-based meal every Monday, or try one vegan recipe before World Vegan Month is up. The competition will keep your team connected and engaged, especially if you offer a prize (like a box of Rule Breaker snacks). Don’t forget to share that a vegan diet can help lower their risk of health problems like type 2 diabetes!

DECEMBER Snack of the Month: Undercover Snacks

The holiday season and chocolate go together perfectly— like peanut butter and jelly, or Sherlock and Watson! It’s no wonder, then, that December ‘tis the season for Undercover Snacks’ Holiday Dark Chocolate + Peppermint quinoa crisps. Undercover is a true family business, run by CEO and Co-owner Diana Levy, her husband Michael, and one of their daughters. Diana has a longtime passion for chocolate and started her company making fancy confections. But when two of her kids were diagnosed with celiac disease, she spun her business model around and started making better-for-you, certified gluten-free treats in 2017. Undercover specializes in clusters of crisped quinoa dunked in chocolate (and we mean dunked— Diana’s recipes use an almost 50/50 ratio of chocolate to quinoa). The crisps are a great source of protein and fiber, and the Levys make them in an eco-friendly, solar- powered facility in East Hanover, New Jersey. They even keep sustainability in mind when sourcing ingredients, like their Rainforest Alliance-certified chocolate!
