OCTOBER Snack of the Month: Wicked Crisps
After years of working with big-name brands in the snack industry, food scientist Phil Kosak and his business partner (a service-disabled veteran who prefers to remain anonymous) decided to do something different. In 2018, they created a new chip brand to sell better-for-you snacks and help folks with disabilities at the same time. The brand, Wicked Crisps, makes its chips with veggies like peas, sweet potatoes, spinach, and broccoli. The name is a nod to the snack’s deceptive nature. Each savory, salty bite— toasted to perfection in an oven Phil designed— is so tasty you’d never guess it’s good for you.

Phil has prioritized hiring mentally and/or physically disabled workers since 1984. That year, he took a chance and hired his first employee with disabilities. Their work ethic blew him away! Phil became an advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act and has served on various boards and committees including The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. Today, more than half of the workers at Wicked Crisps have special needs. Snacking on Wicked Crisps’ Sea Salt and Hummus Crisps is a great way to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Every bite you take will support Phil’s efforts to give more opportunities to disabled workers.
