A Gift Of Freedom

As would be every new charge invented by the government. And the DOJ and FBI, even as they attacked our farm in the frosty January darkness with armored vehicles and armored thugs, knew they were false. But they didn’t care. That should be chilling to every American. My name is Thomas Caldwell and I am a Christian. I am also a retired Navy Lieutenant Commander who served our nation for nearly two decades in the In- telligence Community. My wife, Sharon, and I spent years running a successful software company serv- ing federal agencies ranging from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to the U.S. Coast Guard. We were living peacefully on our small family farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley when freedom was snatched from us. Freedom. That and so much more. I watched helplessly that morning, chained hand and foot, as the bumbling FBI nearly murdered my wife on our front porch. What followed was my arrest

This past Christmas, at home on our windswept farm, Sharon and I spoke reverently of God’s strength and provision within the storm. All glory belongs to He who delivered us against all odds. Loosed from oppression and threats, the season was one of peace, praise, and reflection. While health and reputation and fortune are for- ever lost to the crumbling fantasy version of January 6, for my wife and me and for hundreds of falsely charged and overcharged citizens, a most wonder- ous gift this Christmas was that of freedom. No longer a “right,” if a despotic government can snatch it away as it has and will again. Freedom in our land is what it has always been: a precious gift from God. days, anniversaries, seasonal celebrations, visits to nursing homes and hospitals, even funerals denied. Family and relationships lost. Silenced. “Don’t you dare speak in public, filthy insurrectionist!” And when I did, it was food for the ravenous lawfare machine which quashed, manip- ulated and lied about my faith-filled words. Fodder for the cannons of hatred. “Guilty” — and no one would listen to the truth of my innocence.
Life, liberty, happiness, freedom to worship and freedom of speech all de- nied. Aren’t they, along with truth, the foundations of America itself? Could this happen in our country? It did. I’m just one person to tell you about it. Whether on a cold prison floor, in a terrible 10-week long secretive and rigged trial or suffering on the edge of life imprisonment for years, the tougher the situation, the more God revealed Himself and His love to my wife Sharon and me. When there was no hope, we found hope in fervent prayer and in the study of His Word, the Holy Bible. In the darkest and most frightening parts of my life and maybe only in those times, I was the most receptive to Him.
