Diary of an HR Manager

Saturday 9.25 a.m. A late breakfast! My first year-end function last night (Friday) had been a different one…a wine tasting at the offices of one of our headhunter contacts just off Piccadilly. Peter had suggested we go – Tanya had a sick child and had to cry off – as there were a couple of contacts we needed to meet up with. He was right, as one of their project agency side was

keen to pass us some contracts that they had that weren’t really their forte. There was a pretty decent turnout, mostly HR folk and a few CEOs, all getting into the tasting, which had been most entertainingly presented by a Master Vintner whom I recognised from way back in my early days being interested in wine! I made note of a really fruity Chilean Merlot.

Peter and I circulated before and after the tasting, and I had the chance to hear the views of two HRDs on AI and the job market generally. Overall, the outlook for HR was gloomy according to them, as AI could cut away entry-level jobs in HR, and where were the new entries going to get experience? My private feeling was that those jobs were admin anyway, not the most fascinating
