IGCSE English Literature

Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of texts, maintaining a critical style and presenting an informed personal engagement. Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects. Explore links and connections between texts. Show an understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written. Study a Shakespearean play and a modern drama text which deal with themes of blind ambition and social responsibility amongst others. Develop your arguments and analytical skills as you support your views. The texts are chosen to expose you to the cultures of many societies, and find enjoyment in reading literature while learning to understand literature's influence on individuals and societies. Course Expectations Engage with and discuss the issues and ideas explored by a range of literary texts from around the world. Develop your understanding of literary features and explore how these are used by different writers in different forms of literature to create effects on the reader.

Be prepared to develop your arguments in response to the ideas raised by the poems, novels and dramas that they read.

What will I learn?

In this course, you will: Study a novel exploring issues of racism,

isolation and desperation and a collection of poems exploring a range of themes from love, loss and family relationships.

Examination Structure This course is made up of a coursework folder worth 40% of the final grade and one written exam which has three parts to it, totalling 60% of the final grade. The break down of these two components is as follows:
