GCSE Drama

What will I learn? In this course, you will learn a blend of knowledge and skills: You will learn the set text 'Antigone Remastered'. You will explore it both practically and in a theoretical approach, from the viewpoint of being an actor and a director. You will participate in a range of practical workshops which will endow you with a wide and comprehensive skills set Skills, Knowledge and Understanding Physical Theatre and the work of ‘Frantic Assembly’ Soundscape and the art of creating environment with voice. Freeze frames, thought tracking, tableaux and captions. Mirroring. Stylised work including: choral movement and voice; cannon movement and voice, song, dance, narration, slow motion. The work of William Shakespeare and iambic pentameter. Theatre review and extended essay writing.

Course Expectations A real desire to commit to a practical rehearsal schedule. This will include lunch times/after school sessions and weekends. For the student to dedicate themselves equally to both the practical and theory elements of the course. For the student to be prepared to push themselves out of their comfort zone and grow in confidence. For the student to approach independent study in a mature and organised way. Fun, enjoyment and personal self expression.

Examination Structure This course is a mixture of 3 elements: practical acting, written coursework and a final written examination. The written examination is separated into two sections: response to a set text (Antigone) and a Theatre review.

One practical performance will happen in Year 10 and one in Year 11. The coursework will be started in Year 10 and concluded in Year 11, and is a write up of the devising process.
