International A Level English Literature
What will I learn? In this course, you will engage creatively with a substantial body of texts from Shakespeare to the Romantics and more modern texts like ‘The Kite Runner’. You will focus on developing your knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation through speech and writing. You will explore the contexts of texts and how this supports your interpretations of them, and deepen your understanding of the changing traditions and styles of literature in English. Skills, Knowledge and Understanding Develop reasoning and academic argumentation in both written and oral formats. Expand knowledge and application of literary terms.. Develop a deeper understanding of how writers create meaning using language, form and structure Build a deeper understanding of how texts are shaped by the contexts in which they are produced and received. Apply critical thinking skills, including the application of different schools of thought to the reading of literary texts.

Course Expectations Achieve a minimum of 5 grade 6 (I)GCSEs including a minimum of a grade 6 in English First Language and LIterature. Students are expected to have a good level of reading and analytical skills and enjoy discussions on topics raised by literary texts from a wide spectrum of modern and classic heritages. Students are expected to have a competent level of independent learning skills and enjoy thinking critically and analytically, always supporting their ideas with textual evidence. Students are expected to read widely, beyond the required reading list, including but not limited to, literary criticism and social historical contextual material. An interest in social, global and political issues can be an advantage if studying this course. Students should demonstrate a genuine love and enthusiasm for reading literature.
Examination Structure The course is modular with two units being assessed at the end of Year 12 and then two assessed at the end of Year 13.
