International A Level Biology

Skills, Knowledge and Understanding The aims and objectives of this qualification is to enable students to develop and demonstrate: Essential knowledge of biological concepts and their interconnections across molecular, cellular, and ecological levels. A thorough understanding of scientific methods, emphasizing investigation, analysis, and evaluation. Confidence in applying practical techniques, mathematical reasoning, and critical problem- solving to biological contexts. A passion for biology, preparing for advanced study or careers in biomedical sciences, ecology, and related fields.

Course Expectations Achieve a minimum of grade 6-6 in Double Award , or a 6 in Triple Biology at IGCSE Have a good standard of literacy and analytical skills Develop an awareness of the relevance of Biology to other fields of study Set aside time to engage with sources of Biology related news and media such as journals What will I learn?

Throughout this two year course you will be exposed to a deeper level of detail and complexity to concepts covered at IGCSE such as sub-cellular structures, biochemical pathways and human anatomy as well as more specialist topics such as microbiology, gene technology and conservation science. Students who study biology at A Level can go on to study subjects at degree level such as Agriculture, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Genetics, Ecology, Medicine, Dentistry, Neurology, Physiology and Zoology, to name only a few. Examination Structure The Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Subsidiary (AS) in Biology and the Pearson Edexcel International Advanced (A) Level in Biology are modular qualifications. The IAS can be claimed on completion of Units 1-3. The IAL can be claimed on completion of Units 1-6.
