unblemished for many years, but whose natural disposition was modest and retiring almost to a fault. The sick man’s face . . . was lighted with a strange unearthly radiance and glory. Hë could speak only in a whis per. He said, “I wish I had a voice, so that I might praise the Lord!” “ You should have praised the Lord, my brother, when you had one,” was Billy’s quiet remark.—F. M. Bourne. 30. Spiritual Praying “ Praying always with aU prayer and supplication in the Spirit” (Eph. 6:18). Prayer in the Spirit makes hearing devout, and leads to obedience. It makes preaching fervent and spiritual. It multiplies and sanctifies giving. It prompts sacrificial service, and makes all work "co-ordinate with the prayer. It anoints the witness with power from on high, and makes the life radiant with a heavenly light. When there is true prayer, all else comes into harmony with God’s will. —A. T. Pierson. Lead Thou the Way “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Col. 3:17). Each time I speak, let what I say Be of Thy Word, That those who listen shall be blessed For having heard. Of what I do, let every move Be first a prayer, That in my touch of other hearts, J shall not err. And when I walk, oh, let me take Thy chosen way, That those who hold my hand shall not Be led astray. —Esther Nilsson. 31.

AH hail to the King! And “the earth shall Be filled" With His glory. —Jessie Bell Thabes. What Is Faith? “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). Faith is the eye by which we look to Jesus. A dim-sighted eye is still an eye; a*weeping eye is still an eye. Faith is the hand with which we lay hold on Jesus. A trembling hand is still a hand. Faith is the torigue by which we taste how good the Lord is. A feverish tongue is nevertheless a tongue. Faith' is the foot by which we go to Jesus. A lame foot is'still a foot. He who comes slowly, nevertheless comes. Faith is founded upon the promises of God.—George Mueller. 27. God's Paradoxes “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be Joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward . . (Heb. 12 : 11 ). God seems to love to work by para doxes and contraries. In the transfor mations of grace, the bitter is the base of the sweet;, night is the mother^ of the day; and death is the gate of life. . . . And so when God wants to bring more power into your life, He brings more pressure. . . . Some of us do not understand, and we try to run away from the pressure, instead of getting the power and using it to rise above the painful cause.—A. B. Simpson. 28. Giving Love! “Thovj shalt love the Lord thy God with a ll thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself” (Lk. 10:27). He who would truly help his fellow men must first love them. No gift, no helping hand, no charitable accom plishment can ever fu lfill its divine purpose except, as it grows out of the spirit of Christlikeness, which is to g iv e ‘one’s self with one’s gift. Chris tian helpfulness does not consist alone in writing a check or giving an alms, but also in the grace of broth erly love and a heart that is ifilled with sympathetic understanding. We give ourselves with our gifts or we do not truly give.— Christian Observer. 28. While We Have a Voice “My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him” (Psa. 22:25). Billy Bray once went to see a dying saint, ii whose character had - been 28.
