One of Shimkat’s strongest moments came when she explained why SBA refuses to treat issues in isolation. “You can’t talk manufacturing without workforce. You can’t talk workforce without childcare. And you can’t talk any of it without housing,” she said. “They’re all connected.” That’s why she sat and listened as LBM leaders described CDL rules, crane certifications, permitting delays, and workforce barriers — and why she pulled her team closer as the questions came in. “We need to know what keeps you up at night,” she told them. “That’s what we’re here to fix.”
