Commercial industry is a key enabler for the future of space operations. Building collaborative, team-centric relationships with open communication and transparency is critical for success. Engage regularly in in-person industry days, program reviews, and postcontract debriefs to continuously improve performance. (Note: Incorporate the 2024 Space Force commercial space strategy or consider it in a separate section.) • (S/T) Weigh Innovation versus Proven Technology. Encourage creativity while leveraging commercially available technology. Balance the desire for “new” technology against the current state-of-the-art to deliver technology that simultaneously meets needs today and can be refreshed quickly to meet the needs of tomorrow. Think of new ways of doing business—build a culture of “getting to yes” and avoid the trap of “this is how it has always been done.” • (S/T) Balance Security with Mission. Execute at the lowest appropriate security level to enhance information sharing, foster collaboration, and enhance system development. Security is important, but it should not hinder mission execution. • (S/PE) Hone Expertise in Your Craft. Master the fundamentals of acquisition and be the expert in an assigned domain area. Meanwhile, everyone must build expertise in satellite and ground system development. • (S) Promote Proximity and Access. Leaders must be accessible. PMs should have regular access to decision-makers who affect their programs. They should also leverage in-person dialogue as much as possible—get out to see the work and meet with teams often. • (S/PM/BB) Share Best Practices. Foster success through shared goals and learning from one another. Travel to learn from others. Learn from exemplars like the NRO, SpRCO, USSOCOM,
