from all over the state of Arkansas, and even some from as far away as Dallas, have also made S-Dock their weekend retreat. The Shipps have found a close-knit community within the encompassment of the dock. “When you’re up here, everybody is outside. Everybody is talking. So, you have a real family atmosphere, a lot of camaraderie and friendships,” Chad continued. “We even like to joke that we know the people on the houseboat dock better than the people in our neighborhood.” The Shipps attribute the closeness formed between boat families to the fact that everyone is spending their time outside. “The kids are usually outside fishing, or maybe kayaking, so we’re hanging out with them, talking to the kids and our neighbors,” said Rebecca. The Shipps and their lake family look out for each other; if someone is headed into town, they ask the other boaters if they need anything, from a burger to groceries. Rebecca recalled a time when neighbors noticed their generator smoking. “It was late at night, and we had no idea. Jim Bunch came by and knocked on the door
