U.S. Citizen Flight Students
Proof of U.S. Citizenship I will present ONE of the following:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship Proof of U.S. citizenship must be presented. Provide only original documents. Photocopies, even certified copies, are not acceptable. Upon your arrival, be prepared to present a valid, unexpired U.S. government-issued photo ID (reflecting your full legal name, which must match your birth certificate) and one of the following original documents: An original birth certificate with raised seal documenting birth in the United States or one of its territories (not a hospital document) An original U.S. naturalization certificate with a raised seal, Form N-550 or Form N-570 An original certification of birth abroad, Form FS-545 or Form DS-1350 An original certificate of U.S. citizenship, Form N-560 or Form N-561
FAA Medical Certificate All students planning to begin flight training at Embry-Riddle are required to hold a current first- or second-class Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) medical certificate. You are required to submit one of the following certificates: Current First-Class medical certificate Current Second-Class medical certificate Note: Your flight medical certificate must show your full legal name as indicated on your birth certificate. Aviation Medical Examiners can be found at the following website: www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator Please be aware that past medical and/or legal problems, including drug- and alcohol-related convictions, could result in being denied a medical certificate even if you feel you are in good health. All previous medical and legal issues should be evaluated before you begin your education for an aviation-related career. If they are not addressed beforehand, delays may result. You will not be allowed to enroll in flight laboratories without an FAA medical certificate. To avoid delays, we advise you to obtain your medical certificate before coming to Embry-Riddle. Both the government and the aerospace industry consider drug- and alcohol-related infractions a serious problem. Note that paying a fine for such a charge is a conviction. Medical and behavioral standards for professional pilots and air traffic controllers are among the highest in our society. Mistakes, poor judgment and other “indiscretions of youth” can have lasting consequences for your career. Prevention through responsible behavior is key.
Flight Certificates and Ratings Earned Before Enrolling at Embry-Riddle Original certificates must be presented for possible advanced standing credit. Before you arrive, copies are to be sent to the Admissions Office for transfer credit evaluation and to determine which class you should register for your first semester of flight at Embry-Riddle. Scan the front and back of your signed certificate and email it to the Admissions Office at daytonabeach@erau.edu . It is critical that we are aware of changes in the status of your flight training as your start term approaches. We will reach out to you on a regular basis to check on your progress and encourage you to contact your Aeronautical Science program coordinator if your status changes. Failure to comply with pre-flight requirements will delay the start of your flight training. How is flight training scheduled? Flight blocks are assigned on a rolling basis. Be sure to submit your survey and respond to other requests from the Flight Department in a timely manner to avoid delays. Private Pilot (FA121) training start dates: Flight students are phased into training at different start dates for capacity and safety reasons. Training start dates are assigned on a first-come, first- served basis depending on your matriculation date to the university. You can identify your start date by looking at your flight block registration (FA 95S). Your academic advisor will assist you. Instrument training start dates: Start dates for instrument training occur on a first-come, first-served basis as well, and students are assigned daily as room in the flight block section (FA 95I) permits.
