The decision on major projects was taken usually through an internal competition in which each partner, along with some of the collaborators, presented his solution to the problem, resulting in memorable architectural discussions, which although becoming quite frank and even harsh, never produced internal cracks within the team. There being no jury, the partners themselves came finally to a verdict. Then one of them headed a team for the referred project and received input from the others. This method of internal competition was taken seriously and with passion by the partners of BVCH, presenting the advantage of providing a diversity of ideas that gave consistency and enriched the project under discussion. Other relevant factors in the operation of a team must be added to this experience. For example, fees were always divided into equal parts and there was a widely held respect among the partners for the development of activities complementary to their professional duties, such as teaching.

One aspect of BVCH that has often been highlighted is the multiple relationships they established with public service and academic activities. Indeed, except for Carlos García Huidobro, who remained faithfully attached to the office and became the major factor of continuity, all the others were heavily involved in public and even definitively political life. Such commitments were made with enthusiasm and conviction by the members of the office, even at the risk of affecting and ultimately ending their professional association.
