FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES Highlights & Recognitions • USDA, DESE, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, and guests from the Office of Management and Budget visited on September 11, 2024 to learn about our local food purchasing initiatives • US Congressman Jim McGovern along with Jamie Eldridge, Simon Cataldo and a representative from Lori Trahan’s office visited as part of Massachusetts Farm to School on November 28, 2024 • Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award received for excellence in elevating school nutrition (Notified May 2, 2025). • Graduate of the Healthy School Fellowship Pathway Program through the Chef Ann Foundation. • Approved to launch the Summer Eats Program which will allow us to feed free summer lunches to all students, in partnership with Acton Food Pantry and Open Table.
Infrastructure & Equipment Enhancements • Major kitchen equipment upgrades – Blanchard: Steamer – Conant: Kettle – RJ Grey: Dishwasher, three-bay sink
Recently Awarded Grants • Northeast Food for Schools (NFS) • MA Fresh Grant – Cooking Clubs at elementary schools – Chef training across all elementary kitchens – Afternoon staffing to support new menu development and food preparation • Summer Eats Expansion Grant— In collaboration with Project Bread and DESE • Food Security Infrastructure Grant— Renovation of all high school serving lines • Chef Ann Foundation Grant— Blenders provided to support smoothie production in all schools
– High School: f our-door reach-in refrigerator – District-wide: Outdoor freezer, refrigerated van, tilt skillet, salad bars, refrigerated vending machines Meals Served • 2024–2025 Year to Date (154 serving days): – Total Breakfast: 217,535 (1,412 per day) – Total Lunch: 550,978 (3,578 per day)
