An Office Full of Hellos and Goodbyes
When you run your own business, whether it’s a dental practice, a law firm, or a retail store, you don’t expect any employee to stick around forever. And that’s okay. When I bring someone onto my team, they know their job is to help the practice run to the best of their ability, and my job is to help them develop into the person they want to become during their time with the practice. For this reason, we often go through periods of change around the office. And right now, we have some big changes brewing! Dr. Noor Almudallal’s career has entered a new stage. Her last day at the office was a few weeks ago, and we all learned a lot during our time together. We’re in the process of bringing in a new associate, so it’s a pretty exciting time. Two other members of our team are also entering new stages in their lives. Emily, one of my dental assistants, has been accepted to dental school, and one of our dental hygienists, Janae, just welcomed her second baby. I could tell you how excited I am for them, but I think it would be best if I let Emily and Janae take it from here.

a due date of June 26, our first child’s half- birthday. Mac is two and a half years older than his new sibling and he was excited to learn he’s going to be a big brother, though I couldn’t help but wonder if he’s still going to be excited after the baby arrives. There are some new challenges ahead of us. A lot of people want to know if we’re having a boy or a girl. Well, my husband and I decided to keep the gender a secret, even from ourselves. We’re even keeping our name choices a secret until the delivery. And now I get to let you in on a little secret: We work on our newsletter well in advance, so at the time of writing, I don’t know if I’ll be welcoming a son or daughter yet! By the time you’re reading this, though, the baby will have arrived, so if you want to hear more about the littlest member of the office, feel free to ask next time you’re in! I’m sure there will be plenty of pictures to share even before I return to work in September. - Janae
After working at Dr. Schermer’s office, I have fallen in love with general and cosmetic dentistry. I have been able to work with not only an impressive team, but with a mentor who has inspired me to go after my dental career head-on. I’ve also been very lucky to have had the support of so many people during this time and to have been part of such a great practice.
Thank you to Dr. Schermer, the team, and our patients for this great experience. I’ll miss you all! But who knows? Maybe I’ll be back here in four years as an associate.

Any parent knows that having your first baby is a pretty stressful time. And any parent with two kids knows that having your second baby is also stressful, but for completely different reasons.
I’ll be starting dental school at Midwestern University’s Downers Grove campus in the fall, and I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am! I knew from the moment I toured the campus that it was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life learning how to be a dentist.
My husband and I were so excited to learn we were expecting our second child, with
