in motion Pearland SUMMER 2019
HELLO, PEARLAND!
Thank you for picking up another great edition of Pearland In Motion. Can you believe we are already planning summer activities? It seems like just yesterday we were throwing snowballs at Winterfest. But I am glad summer is here, because we have been working hard to get even more public road and recreation improvement projects finished for you. We are also planning for this season to provide a variety fun activities and opportunities to explore around the vibrant Pearland community.

We have been focused on improving neighborhood parks with recent upgrades to Hyde and Woodcreek parks, so that a fun afternoon can be as close as possible. And we are resurfacing the splashpads at Southdown and Centennial Parks to make them feel brand new again. We recently kicked off construction on two new sections of trail – one in Green Tee Terrace and one in Shadow Creek Ranch. Independence Park is getting a major upgrade with a new stage and amphitheater-style setup that will be great for events like Celebration Freedom, concerts, and other types of festivals. And we just opened the doors to the brand new, first of its kind in Pearland, Delores Fenwick Nature Center. It was the perfect addition to the John Hargrove Environmental Complex, providing a free educational experience where visitors can learn about the plants and animals in our local ecosystem, and maybe even see the staff feed one of the animals! There are a variety of programs and events available through the Parks and Recreation Department, most of them are available right in this Pearland In Motion , but feel free to stop by the Recreation Center and Natatorium and ask the front desk if you have questions, they’re happy to help. There has also been a lot of hard work related to Capital Improvements in and around Pearland. Reconstruction of Walnut and Old Alvin around the area of the Old Townsite has been repaved, and now the roads are smoother than ever but with significant improvements to drainage with the addition of regional water detention. Fire Station #1 is just about ready to be the new permanent home for Firefighters in that area, and a shining example of what a modern fire station should be. And we have kicked off a major project to upgrade the aging 37,000 water meters in the City to a more intelligent meter reading technology that will provide residents direct access to more detailed water usage information. It is an exciting time to live in Pearland, as we continue to invest in the brightest future possible for this great community. I hope you get out and experience the evolving community and all of the new features being added every day. Have a great summer!
