Phase I of the Independence Park Improvements Plan includes reorientation of the park entrance along with improvements to electrical and lighting for the park. A small stage, which has been built with a sloped earthen berm type amphitheater for special events, including new restrooms. Increased parking and road repairs will help with traffic flow in the park. Since construction started in October 2017, Phase I improvements have included a reorientation of the of the entry into the park, relocation and replacement of the existing playground, improvements to electrical & lighting, upgrades to electrical and water sources around the park for vendor access, additional pedestrian lighting, as well as the construction of additional parking and restrooms. Other exciting additions to the park include a stage building for theatrical productions and an amphitheater for special events, as well as the possible addition of Wi-Fi to the park in the future. This project is part of the city’s effort to ensure Quality Parks, Recreation and Events – one of Pearland City Council’s six Strategic Priorities.
