2.6.2 Low-Level Waste, Mixed Low-Level Waste, and Other Radioactive Material. Transportation plans are not routinely written for shipments of these materials. The cognizant DOE program organization will determine if the shipping activities warrant the development of a written transportation plan. When a transportation plan is not developed, the DOE shipping organization may develop, in consultation with State and Tribal authorities, a detailed fact sheet to provide specific shipment information for a wide audience: public officials, media, state and local emergency response personnel, state and regional planners, etc. 2.7 Communications Plans Public information officers have standardized communications practices for providing general information to the public. General information on transportation of radioactive material is identified in Attachment 4. DOE program managers are encouraged to use this material whenever possible to address public concerns/questions. For some shipments, this general information may be sufficient. The cognizant DOE program organization is responsible for coordinating stakeholder interactions. 2.7.1.
