Initial Site-Specific De-Inventory Report for Big Rock Point Report No.: RPT-3014537-002
2.2 Characteristics of SNF and GTCC LLW to be Shipped The inventory of SNF and GTCC LLW intended to be shipped from the BRP site has all been previously transferred to the ISFSI and is contained in eight FuelSolutions W74 canisters, loaded in W150 storage casks. There is a total of 441 SNF assemblies loaded in seven of the casks and the GTCC LLW is loaded in the eighth cask. A total of 57.9 Metric Tons of Heavy Metal (MTHM) is stored at the BRP ISFSI [8] . Big Rock Point BWR fuel is unique. It is both larger in cross section and shorter overall than typical GE-BWR assemblies. Although BRP fuel has been supplied in several rod arrays that vary from 9 x 9 to 12 x 12, the external envelope dimensions are unchanged [6] . Refer to Table 2- 1 for data related to the BRP fuel. Table 2-2 provides burnup and discharge data associated with the 441 fuel assemblies loaded in the BRP ISFSI. The fuel was discharged from the reactor vessel between 1974 and 1997, with a median discharge year of 1988. The burnup of the fuel varies between 3.5 and 34.2 GWd/MTHM, with the median burnup being 23.7 GWd/MTHM. There is no high burnup SNF (greater than 45 GWd/MTHM) stored at BRP [8] . The seven canisters of SNF contain 50 damaged fuel assemblies, which have been placed in damaged fuel cans. In addition to Uranium Dioxide (UO 2 ) SNF assemblies, there are 36 Mixed Oxide (MOX) SNF assemblies stored at BRP. Table 2-3 lists the assembly identification numbers for these MOX SNF assemblies [8] . Each of the W74 canisters includes a lower and an upper basket, where each basket can hold up to 32 SNF assemblies. While there are 37 grid openings in each basket, the five central locations of each SNF basket are blocked to prevent fuel from being loaded in those locations. Up to eight MOX SNF assemblies can be loaded per canister [14] . Due to the number of SNF assemblies being less than the capacity of the seven canisters, cell E7 in each of the upper baskets does not contain a SNF assembly. The GTCC LLW canister also includes two baskets, where the contents are confined to the nine central basket locations. The remaining basket openings are loaded with ballast [13] . A summary of contents for the BRP ISFSI is as shown in Table 2-4. TABLE 2-1: BRP FUEL INFORMATION [6] Parameter Description Fuel Type: GE-BWR Fuel Assembly Envelope Dimensions: 6.513 in. square x 83.98 in.
