FIGURE 3-2: DIVERSION TRUCK ROUTE*

*Note: diversion is light orange line between purple crosses.

Route 1:

Route for loads less than 14’ 0” high. US Route 31N approximately 12.7 miles to Petoskey, MI.

Route 2: Diversion Route US Route 31N for approximately 1 mile, right turn onto Burgess Road approximately 1 mile, turn left onto Old US Route 31 for approximately 2.75 miles, briefly turn left onto Murray Road and then back onto US Route 31N for approximately 8.75 miles, turn right onto US Route 131 South in Petoskey and travel approximately 23 miles, turn left onto MI-32E and travel approximately 12.5 miles into Gaylord, MI. The last two large components to move from the site were moved by truck to two different rail sidings where they were transloaded onto rail cars for rail movements to disposal facilities in South Carolina and Utah. In 2003, the reactor pressure vessel was moved on a goldhofer from the site and traveled approximately 52 miles to Gaylord, MI, where it was transloaded onto a specialty rail car (depressed center deck with load shifting capabilities), on a Class II railroad (LSRC) for movement to a low-level disposal facility in Barnwell, SC. The over-the-road weight was 565,000 lbs. and it was 25 ft. long x 13 ft. in diameter. Due to the height of the unit, it was required to travel from BRP to the rail siding on the diversion route listed above to avoid the abandoned railroad bridge located on US Route 31N.
