5.3.3.5 Impact of Weather/Tides to Route The impact of weather and tides in this area of the country is considered to be either directly impacting on the routes (e.g., rough waters and snow in the winter) or indirectly impacting on the routes (e.g., vacationer traffic in the summer on the roads and waterways). The HHT routes may be impacted adversely by the winter weather and the heavy traffic in the summer, but are favored over barge routes, which can be impacted by the rough winter lake weather and the summer lake traffic to a larger degree than the impact of the weather to travel on the roads (can be overcome by plows and/or traffic control). 5.3.3.6 Number of Water Areas Nearby Route The number of water areas along each of the seven routes has been established by START [1] , with identifiable differences between nearly each of the routes. Table 5-3 shows the number of water crossings along each of the seven routes and provides the basis for the assessment utilized in the MUA. Since these areas are relatively small, the differences were only identified as slightly different in the evaluation.
