This is a strange but instructive book. Its subtitle is A Christian As sessment of the Powers and. Functions of Human Personality and the author is principal of Tyndale Hall. Appar ently a believing minister in the Church of England, he discusses the nature of personality and occultism, spiritualism, ghosts, reincarnation and kindred subjects and includes much informative data. The bibliographies are good. The index of authors cited is extensive. 192 pages; cloth; Pater noster Press, London, England; 10 shillings, sixpence. Published as Man in the Process X>f Time; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Pub. Co., Grand Rapids, Mich.; $3.00. The pas to r o f Calvary Baptist Church, Bristol, Pa. sends forth these 16 messages, the first of which gives its title to the book, as comforting truths for dark days. The alliterated outlines are printed under each title in the table of contents. The sermons are true to the Word, a blessing to read. 182 pages: cloth; Loizeaux Brothers, New York, N.Y.; $2.50. Between the first chapter on “The Need of the Hour” and the last on “The Pathway to Revival” the author recounts the historic American re vivals from the great awakening under Edwards and Whitefield to the mid-20th century revival of our own day. Contemporary American evan gelicals need to know and understand the revival movements here brought before the reader. 189 pages; cloth; W. A. Wilde Co., Boston, Mass.; $2.50. The S to r y o f Stewardsh ip in the United S ta tes o f Am erica By George A. E. Solstrand Here is an amazing book! It is a study of stewardship attitudes in the history of our country from minister ial support in colonial times through the rise of modern missions to modem plans of proportionate giving.
