aside to the right hand or to the left” (2 Kings 22:2). Josiah sent one of the scribes to the house of the Lord and while there, the scribe was told by the high priest that the book of the law had been found in God’s house. It was taken to the king and when he heard it read he tore his clothes and said, “ Go ye, inquire of the L ord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, con cerning the words of this book that is found . . .” (2 Kings 22:13). He wanted to have his life and the life of his people guided by the command ments of the Lord. We may never need a compass to guide us but we are constantly need ing God’s guidance. He has given us the Bible and the Holy Spirit in order that we may be guided correctly. If we follow His guidance, we will be assured of victory. T he B est b y T est OBJECT: A paper telescope. (Use a piece of adding machine paper 2% inches wide and 71/£ feet long. Roll tightly until the diameter is approxi mately 1-1/8 inches. Paste the end of the paper on the outside to keep it from unrolling. Print the word “ na tion” on the roll. Wet your finger, place it on the inside of the roll and pull the inside down until the tele scope is approximately 32 inches long. Print down from the word “ nation” with a crayon, the words: “ Righteous ness exalteth a,” each letter on a separate layer. Push the telescope back together and pull it out again in the opposite direction with the small end up. Print down toward the word “nation” the words: “ Sin is a reproach to any.” Push the telescope back together before beginning the lesson.) LESSON: This roll of paper has the word “ nation” on it. Have you ever wondered why nations rise and fall? (Raise and lower the hand holding the roll.)

They don’t get anything out of read ing the Bible. They don’t receive any blessing from going to church. To them it is a loss of time. You are wondering why Sam Sack gets something out of the Bible. It is because he is right on the inside. When the heart is right with God, then a person can find wonderful things in the Bible. In thinking of this brother and sister, I am reminded of the good king, Josiah, whose heart was right with God. We are told about him in 2 Kings 22. He found many things in the Bible for himself and his peo ple and was used of God to turn them from sin. He could do this because his heart was right with God. A G ood G uide OBJECTS: A Bible, a compass and a toy ship. LESSON: Suppose you were lost in foggy weather out in a ship like this one. How would you find your way home? “ I would use a compass.” Yes, those who sail the seas use the compass to guide them when they cannot see land, sun or stars. Many a wise sea captain has piloted his ship safely into harbor because he fol

S acks and A cts OBJECTS: A common paper sack, a fancy paper sack, a Bible, some bright nails, some new tacks, a mag net and a piece of iron. (Conceal the magnet in the common sack and the piece of iron in the other. Have the Bible open on the table with the nails and tacks scattered over the open pages.) LESSON: I brought two friends of mine with me this morning. Here they are. What do you think their last name is? “ Sack.” You are right. One is a boy and the other is a girl. Which one do you think is Sally? Yes, she is the fancy one. Sam is rather plain looking, but when you know them both you will agree with me that he is much wiser than his sister.. W e often make mistakes because we judge by the outward appearance of people. If they have fine clothes, we are apt to think that they are bet ter than those who may not be able to buy fancy clothes. Sam and Sally are different in their looks but this is not the only difference. They are different with regard to the Bible. Here on the table is an open Bible. When Sam comes to the Bible, he gets something out of it. (Pass plain sack over one side of the Bible.) Look at the things he has found in the Bible. We will see whether Sally can find anything in the Bible. (Pass fancy sack over other side of the Bible.) Not a thing! She comes to the Bible but can find nothing of interest to her. Do you know people who are like Sally Sack?

lowed the compass, even though it seemed to him that he was going in the wrong direction. Josiah was one of Judah’s good kings. It was said of him, “ . . . he did that which was right in the sight of the L ord , and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not
