Original ly part of Indooroopi l ly and later a part of Toowong, the history of St Lucia is incredibly vibrant and exci t ing. Ini t ial ly featuring numerous sugar plantat ions establ ished in the 1860s, the suburb was formed when Wi l l iam Alexander Wi lson, a West Indian hai l ing from the town of St Lucia purchased one of these plantat ions in 1882.
He went on to name this plantat ion St Lucia, a homage to his hometown.
