use is found in John 3 and deals with believers only who have received Christ as Saviour. Then there is also, specifically the Messianic kingdom, spoken of in Matthew and Isaiah. The New Scofield Bible has some excel lent notes on this on page 1584. Q. Pawtucket, R.l. — “Will you please explain Hebrews 10:26-31; also can you suggest a good commentary on this book for our further study?” A. This section, along with Hebrews 6:1-6, seems to trouble some people unduly. Remember, first of all, that this is being written to a small group of Jewish believers. They are ad dressed as “beloved” and “brethren.” At the same time there was a much larger group who, while they intellec tually were convinced Jesus was the Messiah, they had never made a per sonal commitment to Him. Then there was the majority of unbeliev ing Israel who rejected Christ alto gether. This portion, along with the section in the sixth chapter, shows that the second group is in view. There must be vastly more than a head knowledge of Christ if we are to experience true salvation. As you compare this verse with the 26th, we readily see that this cannot refer to believers. We are redeemed through faith in Christ and cannot come into condemnation. We have passed out of death into life. The analogy is drawn concerning Moses’ law. Anyone who despised it died with out mercy. How much more punish ment should be given when individ uals have more light? The command ments exacted a penalty. As the Lord has elevated them to an even higher level of standard and examination so even our spiritual responsibility is greater. * * * The man who toots his own horn usually
starts with adultery and continues through the list. Sin is any want of conformity to, or transgression of, the law of God. A little white lie is just as wicked in the sight of God as one of major proportions. The only sin God does not forgive is that of denying the Lord Jesus Christ and His atoning work on Calvary’s cross. So long as man has breath, however, he has the opportunity of receiving the Saviour. Remember, God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Q. La Mesa, Calif. — “7s there any hope for me in this world to come? I read my Bible and pray but God never hears because I smoke. I pray so hard that He’ll set me free by His precious blood, a n d believe that there’s power in His blood to do this.” A. Keep in mind that one isn’t saved or lost because he smokes or not. Sal vation is dependent wholly upon our relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ. For some, the moment they are saved, unseemly habits are immediately for saken and complete victory is given. There is a power which breaks the power of sin. God will give you the victory as you look to Him. In John 4:4 we read that greater is the Holy Spirit within us than Satan and the power of the world. Keep on praying that the Lord will deliver you from this habit which de files His temple. Q. Rockyford, Colo. — “I ’m writing to ask two questions which have come up several times in my Sunday school class. There has been a difference of opinion. What is the kingdom of God and what is the kingdom of heaven? Can you give us some Scripture for this?” A. Scripture uses these expressions
