A TRIBUTE TO MY MOTHER’S RESILIENCE Her Tenacity Has Made Me Who I Am Today
As we celebrate Mother’s Day this May, my mind keeps circling back to the massive impact my mom has had on me. It’s a good time to remember, especially after chatting about Women’s History Month back in March. My mom’s story is one of those that has really stuck with me throughout the years. Looking back, I realize the insane amount of stuff she powered through, and it hits me: If she could do all that, then what’s my excuse? Growing up, I witnessed my mother tackle life with a fearless determination — nothing was too insurmountable to overcome. I remember the long nights she worked multiple jobs, her relentless pursuit of new skills, and her venture into the complexities of real estate — all done with the sole purpose of providing
for our family. Back then, as a kid, I couldn’t fully grasp the magnitude of her sacrifices. But today, as I handle my own challenges, her determination reminds me that with enough resilience, no obstacle is too great. My mother taught me that the path to the most remarkable achievements is always packed with risks and demands hard work over time. She showed me that while it’s easy to opt for the low-hanging fruit, the sweetest rewards often lie at the top of the tallest mountains. So, you better start climbing. Her life is a testament to the power of persistence; even when ventures didn’t pan out as hoped, she knew when to pivot, never viewing these moments as failures
but as opportunities to redirect her efforts. Her unwavering loyalty — to her dreams, to those who stood by her, and to her values — instilled in me the importance of having a supportive team around you. This philosophy is something I’ve proudly incorporated into the core values of The Button Law Firm. Inspired by my mother, we’ve cultivated an environment that champions resilience, mutual support, and loyalty. I want to highlight the moms in our office, Eurika, Lilia, Rosie, Rena, and Cristina, who embody the spirit of determination and collaboration. Many of our clients are incredible mothers who’ve trusted daycare facilities to keep their kids safe only to face their worst nightmares. These super moms, who juggle work and family with unparalleled grace, inspire us daily. They remind us why we’ve created resources like our “10 Tips to Finding a Safe Daycare” guide — to empower and assist them in navigating these challenging waters. This Mother’s Day, I want to extend a heartfelt shoutout to all moms, including those within our team and the courageous mothers we represent. Your strength, dedication, and love are the driving forces behind everything we strive to achieve at The Button Law Firm. –Russell Button

A LEAP OF FAITH AND A BIT OF GRACE How Rena Overcame Challenges as a ‘Non-Traditional’ Law Student
We are thrilled to spotlight an exceptional member of our team, Rena, who recently celebrated a significant milestone by graduating from law school. From client to law clerk, Rena’s journey into the legal profession is a testament to her determination and commitment to her ambitions and those in need. After throwing her cap in the air, Rena shared a few life lessons she learned along the way! Rena’s journey is truly remarkable. A U.S. Army Veteran, she pursued her passion for law later in life while also embracing the role of a devoted mother. Along the way, she encountered a myriad of challenges, often different from those commonly faced by “traditional” law students. One of the most profound lessons Rena learned during her time in law school was the importance of granting herself grace. It’s no surprise that most people in the legal
field are type A personalities, which also means wrestling with high expectations.
to advocate for justice. This calling became unmistakably clear during her experience as one of our firm’s early daycare case clients. Rena’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your calling. Her journey challenges the traditional trajectory of the legal profession and highlights the diverse backgrounds and life experiences that enrich the practice of law. As Rena returns to The Button Law Firm after her bar exam, she brings her legal education and a rich tapestry of life experiences that highlight her commitment to justice. Rena’s story is not just her own but a symbol of possibility for anyone considering a drastic career change or wrestling with self-doubt in pursuing their dreams. It demonstrates unequivocally that with passion, faith, and the right support, transformative changes are within reach!
Rena realized that perfect is impossible and it was okay to accept a helping hand, especially as someone already juggling a job and family at home! Another significant hurdle was overcoming the pervasive imposter syndrome many law students experience. This was
particularly poignant for Rena, who had to overcome those pesky doubts that plague even the most capable people in demanding environments. Rena’s decision to attend law school represented a pivotal leap of faith. After more than 15 years in higher education and a stable job, the switch to pursuing a legal career meant stepping into the unknown — a decision fueled by a deep-seated calling

A PAINFUL FALL AND ITS LASTING CONSEQUENCES We Held a Negligent Daycare Accountable for Their Lack of Supervision
Daycare facilities are designed to offer the same level of care and supervision a parent would provide, ensuring every child’s safety and well-being in a nurturing environment while the parents are at work or away. If they fail to fulfill such a basic responsibility, the safety of every child in their care is put at risk. Picture this: You arrive to collect your child from daycare, only to discover them walking with a limp, in agony because of an injury they got when they were left unattended. This exact nightmare became a reality for one of our clients, whose daughter endured unnecessary suffering due to the negligence of a childcare center. The incident involved a serious lapse in supervision that led to a preventable injury for Kelly ( her name was changed to protect the client’s privacy ). While on the playground, Kelly fell and landed painfully
on her back. The caregiver on duty was distracted, engaged in conversation with their back to the children, and failed to notice Kelly’s fall or her subsequent pain. This lack of supervision meant that no immediate aid was provided to Kelly, nor was the incident reported to her mother. After noticing her daughter’s injuries later that evening, the mother found visible abrasions and bright bruising on Kelly’s lower back. The next day, a visit to the daycare provided concrete evidence from video footage, clearly indicating that the caregiver’s negligence was responsible. That’s when the mom came to The Button Law Firm for help. Not only did we find that the daycare’s staff training and supervision were far from acceptable, but we also discovered that the facility had a list of citations
against them in the past. We meticulously demonstrated how these failures led to Kelly’s physical and emotional distress, significantly impacting her quality of life. Kelly continues to feel the painful aftermath of this incident, as she’s unable to play freely with her family and friends for fear of hurting her back. With the efforts of our firm and Kelly’s loved ones, we were able to get the justice needed to allow Kelly and her family to focus entirely on her recovery, both physically and emotionally. The success of this case is a testament to our commitment to protecting children and ensuring that daycares do not fail in their most basic duties. Although Kelly’s journey to full recovery continues, the resolution ensures that her needs are met as she continues to heal.
BLF HIGHLIGHT REEL
“Russell and Rena are a blessing to work with. Rena can relate so well and at no point did they let me feel lost or like I didn’t know what was going on. Rena made the process so much easier to deal with and I really feel like I have a great team on our side, and they are just such a blessing to have for my son’s case.” CLIENT REVIEW –Skyler Jaggli
