48th NSRA Western Street Rod Nationals
StreetScene staffer Paul Sloup cruised his family around the Kern County fair- grounds in his ‘51 Ford under Buick 401ci Nailhead power. Speaking of family, Paul’s son Nate is riding shotgun while wife Linda and youngest son Grant helped grandpa, former NSRA National Event Director Frank Sloup, and a half dozen other family members host the Games. Using a same-year Ford F1 grille with two teeth added, Eastwood’s Gasser Green, ’53 Cadillac hubcaps and Coker American Classic tires Paul is enjoying its unique look as much as cruisin’.
Nick Donovan’s “Rockin’ Road Show” filled in all three days with upbeat tunes. In what’s becoming an annual tradition, around a dozen Sloup family members again gathered to organize some great games and coloring challenges for the kids. The new “Streets of Rods” categories for 2025 include “T-Bucket Terrace” sponsored by O’Brien Truckers, “Highboy Highway” spon- sored by Watson’s StreetWorks, and “Pro Street Alley” sponsored by US 12 Speed & Custom. “Pros’ Pick” by Alumicraft Street Rod Grilles and “29 Below” sponsored by Vintage Air remain popular gatherings and were well-attended by participants and spectators alike. Amidst all this action the NSRA Safety Team inspected a total of 53 rods, customs, classics and performance machines. Southwest Chief Inspector Steve Cardinalli reported 47 passed the NSRA Safety Inspection with 43 of those receiving a Safety 23 sticker for passing all 23 items on the inspection form. Sunday morning dawned to Angelo Frasier leading a Worship Service for rodders in attendance and then everybody turned their atten- tion to the announcement of all the award winners. Stay tuned to StreetScene or check out nsra-usa.com for the 2026 NSRA Event Schedule and announcement of dates for next year’s 49th Western Street Rod Nationals.
