Collective Action Magazine Edition 3. June 2023

“Art in the African context holds significant cultural and historical value for Africans, as it is deeply rooted in their diverse traditions, beliefs, and heritage. South African artists have been making significant contributions to the international art scene, showcasing their creativity, addressing social issues and challenging stereotypes. This has led to increased recognition, appreciation, and demand for South African art globally”.

Leeroy Cana is one such artist who is making meaningful strides with his artistic work. What started as a creation of visual art that serves as a memoir for the buyer, Cana soon realised that there was a need for him to amplify the issues around GBVF. With his brush and paint, Cana is using his art to raise awareness, challenge societal

norms, provoke conversations, and encourage survivors to speak out.
