Our Family’s Plans for Summer Adventures VACATION TIME

Summertime is here, and my family has been planning this summer’s adventures for some time now. We’re taking our family on the road, from the scenic expanses of Idaho to the vibrant wilderness of Yellowstone and maybe even a splash into the sunny shores of Florida. Summer is the time to unwind, reconnect, and make those priceless family memories, which is exactly what I plan on doing this season. Our adventures kick off with a trip to Idaho. Jessica and I went to college in Idaho and got married there! So, this trip isn’t just a vacation; it’s a nostalgic journey to share our past with our kids, who are excited to see where their parents’ stories unfold. It’s been almost a decade since we last visited, and returning now with all of our children feels incredibly special. Once we reach Idaho, we’re excited to stay in a big house where we’ll reunite with Jessica’s side of the family. It’s not just any reunion; we’re merging it with a celebration for her grandmother’s 80th birthday in

Idaho Falls, where her dad grew up. With Jessica being one of six siblings scattered across the country, these reunions are precious.

As part of the family festivities, we’ll go to the breathtaking Yellowstone National Park area. Yellowstone in the summer is an absolute paradise for us. We love the outdoors, and activities like paddleboarding, horseback riding, and fishing are just what we need to break from our routine. Jessica and I had one of our first dates at Yellowstone, making this visit even more meaningful. While we wish we could road-trip to Idaho, time doesn’t permit it, so we’re flying this time. But we’re determined to get a few shorter road trips in this summer. There’s something special about hitting the road with the family, even if just for the weekend; it’s a tradition that brings us all closer together. So, what’s on our road-trip list? Niagara Falls; South Haven or Mackinaw Island, Michigan; and hopefully, if time allows, an excursion to Florida would be the cherry on top — nothing beats the ocean breeze to refresh after a bustling summer. Traveling with kids is an art, and this year will be a bit different. After the birth of our sixth child, we had to change vehicles to something that would fit all of us. Our previous minivan spoiled us with DVD players, but our new car doesn’t have them. We’re kind of excited about it, but it will test our creativity. We usually let the kids pack their backpacks with whatever they want to keep themselves entertained during the ride. Jessica always plans and stores surprise goodies to break out when things get too dull (or a backseat feud erupts). Seat rotation and snack distribution are also part of our strategic plan to ensure the journey is as fun as the destination. As I anticipate all the summer events, I’m reminded why these moments are invaluable. They’re not just breaks from work, but opportunities to nurture the bonds that hold our family together. As we look forward to a summer of exploration, laughter, and family, I’m grateful for these opportunities to make lasting memories.

HOW OUR TEAM CREATES A STRESS-FREE EXPERIENCE FOR YOU No Judgment Here!

Recently, people have been spending big on Father’s Day, and many wait until the very last minute. Last year, Americans spent a record $22.9 billion on Father’s Day, up nearly 10% from the previous year, according to an industry survey. And more than half of consumers don’t start shopping until the week before Father’s Day, while 3.5% wait until the very last day before the holiday, according to another survey. The second survey also revealed that over 75% of shoppers struggle to think of good Father’s Day ideas. Most settle on outings, clothing, gift cards, personal care items, or electronics. Here are three low- budget ideas you can do with your kids that are sure to charm any dad, offered by What’s Up Moms, a top parenting site on YouTube co- founded by vlogger Elle Walker. INTERVIEW CARDS If your kids are preschoolers, have them answer questions about their father and record their answers on notecards. Things like, “How old do you think Daddy is? 100? What is one thing Daddy says? What does Daddy do for work? Why do you love Daddy?” The simplicity and innocence of your children’s answers will warm Dad’s heart more than any store-bought gift ever could. SHOPPING SPREE Give each child $10 to pick out something for Dad, all by themselves, then take them to the nearest big-box store. Walker’s youngsters came up with a mirror, a pair of swim trunks, and crib sheets, and they clearly loved being empowered to make choices. PHOTOS FROM A KID’S PERSPECTIVE You may be surprised at some of the angles children choose and the tender moments they capture, “even if they’re not wow-worthy,” Walker says. Her daughter caught a captivating shot of her husband, Ross, napping with their preschool son resting on his shoulder. Children Create Unique Dad’s Day Gifts IT’S FATHER’S DAY!

We get it! Visiting the dentist can be a

nerve-wracking experience for many, but at our office, we’re dedicated to making every visit as stress-free as possible. Here are some helpful tips to ease anxiety and ensure a comfortable dental experience.

UNDERSTANDING AND NON-JUDGMENTAL CARE

First and foremost, all our patients need to know that our dental office is a judgment-free zone. Whether it’s been six months or six years since your last appointment, our goal is to help you, not judge you. We’re here to meet you where you are and assist you in achieving your oral health goals. Remember, we’ve seen it all, and our primary concern is your well-being and comfort. ALWAYS A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT We understand that comfort can significantly impact your anxiety levels. That’s why we suggest wearing comfortable clothing to your appointments. Comfort becomes even more crucial if you’re coming in for a procedure that might take a while. Feel free to change into more comfortable attire in our bathroom, whether you’re coming straight from work or the gym. Wearing something cozy can help minimize stress and make the experience more pleasant. ANXIETY-REDUCING OPTIONS Although our office does not offer sedation dentistry, we are committed to making your visit as calm and stress-free as possible. For those who need extra help to relax, we can prescribe a mild sedative before your appointment. Please note that if you take this option, you must arrange transportation, as the medication may make you drowsy. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHILDREN When it comes to our younger patients, we aim to make their first dental visits incredibly positive. We understand that setting a good tone early on can influence their attitude toward dental care for years. We might show them around the office, introduce them to our tools, and reward them with a book or a balloon animal after their appointment. We aim to ensure they leave with a smile and look forward to returning. WE’RE HERE TO HELP! No matter your needs, we’re here to assist. If our office isn’t the best fit for your specific requirements, such as needing sedation for cleanings, we’re more than willing to help you find the right clinic. Remember, the most crucial step is not letting your fears hold you back from necessary dental care. So, give us a call, and let’s make your next dental visit a positive experience!

One of our favorite traditions is breakfast in bed for dad and a picture with all of his kids. Having just a father-and-children picture annually is a really fun tradition to look back on through the years, and seeing how the kids have changed (and in our case, been added) is very sweet and sentimental.

Be Sure to Follow These Steps!

YOUR MONTHLY NEED-TO-KNOWS ANDERSON DENTAL CARE HOLIDAY HOURS: Our office will be closed on July 3 and 4 in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on our next regularly scheduled business day, Monday, July 8. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH AIR INSIDE POTATO CHIP BAGS? We often complain that our bag of chips feels half empty with all the air in it, but there’s a reason why! All that air isn’t air at all, but nitrogen gas to help preserve the chips. Think of it as a necessary evil to keep your snack flavorful and crisp. GEORGE FOREMAN NAMED HIS SONS WHAT ? Did you know the former boxer George Foreman named all five of his son George Edward Foreman? If you don’t believe us, look it up! The boxer explained, “If you’re going to get hit as many times as I’ve been hit by Mohammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Evander Holyfield — you’re not going to remember many names.” LIONS ROAMED EUROPE? Yes, lions were once native to many European countries as recent as the Bronze Age. Sadly, humans hunted those lions to the point of extinction, so you won’t be seeing any roaming the streets of France any time soon. HOSTING THE ULTIMATE OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT MOONLIT MOVIE MAGIC Whether it’s blocking pucks during a street hockey game or checkmating chess hustlers at the park, traditionally indoor activities take on an entirely new feel and flavor when taken outside. While a rare sight these days, movie- goers worldwide used to enjoy cinema from the comfort of their cars at drive-in theaters. These made a brief resurgence during the pandemic, but now that movies are rolling in theaters again, the fad has begun to die off. These days, if you want to watch a movie, it seems like you are limited to three options: Watching it at the theater, on your TV, or on your phone or tablet. Now, I think we can all agree that watching a movie outside on your phone does not make for a great cinematic experience. Debtrette, a TikTok influencer and mom, has a suggestion. She put a spin on an old classic — family movie night — by holding it in her backyard with all the conveniences you would expect at a movie theater — like an air mattress, pillows, and blankets! If you are looking for a fun way to spruce up a traditional movie night, what better way than to bring it outside under the stars? Here are some necessities to make your moonlight movie night truly magical:

• • • • • • •

A portable projector screen, like a sheet on a clothesline

Portable movie projector

Candy, popcorn, and beverages Some outdoor seating and cushions

Lamps, lanterns, or candles

Warm blankets

The perfect movie to bring it all together

You can find screens and projectors to fit any budget, and your movie selection will depend on the crowd. Just make it fun: Lie back on the grass and watch “Antz” or lounge in the pool while watching “Jaws”! The key is to make the experience unforgettable, and all who share in it will be thankful for your effort to make it all possible.
