Celebrating My Daughter’s Triumph at Ohio State A FATHER’S PRIDE

Whew — the past couple of cover articles about investments and the economy have been a bit on the heavier side. But, in the grand scheme of things, it really is all about family and prioritizing those who matter most. So, I have some happy news to share. Last month, our family celebrated a monumental accomplishment — my daughter graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education! This month, as I reflect on Father’s Day and my father, I can’t help but think about how proud I am of my daughter and her accomplishments. My dad, as the sole breadwinner, successfully put seven kids through college on a middle-income job. I didn’t know it then, but I understand now just how difficult that must have been! Seven … it’s tough to wrap my head around.

My daughter graduated on the traditional four-year plan, unlike me. It took me five years and an additional three years of law school. Early in her college career, she homed in on her true passion. Although it wasn’t her initial field of study, she quickly transitioned to early childhood education, determined to shape young minds. My hope is that by the time this is printed and reaches your hands, she will have her first job lined up for fall. My fingers are crossed! My daughter is set on teaching kindergarten or elementary school. She’s always had a special connection with children; I’m certain she’ll excel in this new chapter of her life. As her dad, it’s hard to let her step into the adult world and thrive on her own, but I have all the confidence in the world in her. My baby girl is all grown up! And, by the time Father’s Day rolls around, she will have made her permanent move out of my house. She will be moving in with her soon-to-be fiancé, with a wedding on the horizon for the summer of 2025! I’m thrilled for her as she embarks on this new chapter in her life. Missing her high school graduation due to COVID-19 made celebrating this graduation even more exciting and well-deserved. Saying I’m proud doesn’t quite capture it — I’m in awe of the person she has become and the contributions she will make to future generations. I often joke that she inherited her mother’s work ethic and my knack for education — kiddingly, of course! We’re combining her graduation celebration with the 10th anniversary celebration I never managed to give my wife — a nine- night Mediterranean cruise. The four of us will be flying into Rome to embark on this adventure. As we near our 34th anniversary, we’re setting sail on the cruise of a lifetime — better late than never, right?

Here’s to my daughter — the world is yours! Happy Graduation!

JULIA DUPONT, CLIENT EXPERIENCE OFFICER STAFF SPOTLIGHT:

of the estate planning process, from the very first meeting to the signings. I’m also responsible for many back-office duties including HR, accounting, and staff training. What is the most rewarding part of your job? I find it very rewarding to be able to help families every day that are having a hard time. Sometimes, people don’t like to come here because they think estate planning is scary. Other times, especially during probate litigation, people come to us after a tragedy has happened in their family. I’m thankful to have the opportunity to support them in whatever situation they might be in. What would you say to someone hesitant about creating an estate plan? I would say — just get it done. A lot of times people are hesitant because they don’t want to think about what happens when they die. But it only takes a couple hours of your time to gain that relief of knowing that you have your documents in place should anything happen to you. It’s one less thing your family has to worry about. I also want to let our clients know that there are many employers these days that offer legal services as part of your employee benefits. If that is something that you have, I recommend that you take advantage of it. You can usually get a whole estate plan done for very low cost to you.

How long have you been working at the law firm, and what do you do here? I started working for DuPont & Blumenstiel in 2017 at the front desk. Since then, I have transitioned to working more directly with the attorneys and clients on estate plans. My day usually consists of meetings with our clients. I help out with all aspects

Strategies for Managing Investment Risks Build a Solid Foundation

Investing is complicated. While it certainly has its benefits, it also has some drawbacks. One of the greatest challenges many investors face is managing and mitigating risks. While it’s nearly impossible to remove all risks, there are many strategies that investors can use to reduce their exposure and protect their investment portfolios. DIVERSIFICATION One of the most effective ways to manage investment risk is through diversification. By spreading your investments across different assets, industries, and locations, you reduce the impact of any single investment’s poor performance on your overall portfolio. ASSET ALLOCATION Asset Allocation involves determining the optimal mix of asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, cash, and alternative investments, based on your investment goals, risk tolerance, and timeline. This strategy can help manage risk by ensuring that your portfolio is not too concentrated in one particular area. RISK ASSESSMENT It’s important to assess the potential risks before making an investment decision. This includes analyzing factors such as market, credit, and liquidity risks. Understanding the risks involved

with each investment can help you make more informed decisions and avoid unnecessary losses.

REGULAR MONITORING AND REBALANCING As you know, markets are constantly changing. That’s why it’s crucial to monitor your investment portfolio regularly and make adjustments as needed. Rebalance your portfolio by selling overweighted assets and buying underweighted assets. This helps ensure that your portfolio remains aligned with your long-term investment objectives and risk tolerance. DOLLAR-COST AVERAGING This technique involves investing a fixed amount of money at regular intervals, regardless of market conditions, to help reduce the impact of market volatility by spreading out your investment purchases over time. By consistently investing over the long term, you can lower your average cost per share and mitigate the risk of making significant investments at less-than-ideal market prices. Remember, while taking calculated risks can reap great rewards in the world of investing, managing the potential risks effectively is equally important to safeguard your financial future!

Off the Radar HIDDEN GEM VACATION DESTINATIONS Are you tired of visiting hyped-up vacation destinations or getting lost in a big city or crowded national park? If so, consider a holiday at a less congested, more laid-back locale. These hidden gems offer beautiful views and exciting excursions — all without the headaches that come with vacationing to big-name destinations! PINNACLES NATIONAL PARK Make an excursion to Pinnacles in California to enjoy the splendor of nature without having to share space with millions of tourists. With over 30 miles of hiking trails crisscrossing rocky hills and river-strewn caverns, you’ll find plenty of opportunities for memorable adventure. Despite its wondrous views, Pinnacles was named the 15th least- visited national park in 2023, with just over 340,000 annual visitors. CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK Make your way to Oregon and dive into the deepest lake in the country! Crater Lake National Park’s namesake was formed when a volcanic eruption triggered a mountain to come apart in spectacular fashion. You can stay at plenty of campsites and find excellent fishing

in the lake’s pristine and seemingly bottomless water. If you are a fan of hiking, fishing, or breathtaking views, then Crater Lake is for you.

CRATER OF DIAMONDS STATE PARK If you have ever felt envious of the prospectors who made their riches during the California Gold Rush, then pay a visit to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, where you can discover your own hidden gems! You can discover rare rocks and minerals in a massive field birthed by volcanic activity, including diamonds, amethysts, garnets, and quartz. The best part? Anything you find, you can keep! Seekers have found more than 35,000 diamonds at the park since it opened in 1972, and with some luck, you could add a few more to that tally!
