HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is a major national holiday in the United States. It marks the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, when the U.S. officially became a separate nation from Great Britain in 1776.
It’s a day filled with patriotism, celebrations, and community. Across the country, people celebrate with:
Fireworks Barbecues Parades Live music Family gatherings
At Frenchman’s Creek, we also host special events and entertainment for our members to enjoy the holiday in style.
Whether you're working or observing, it's a great opportunity to experience a fun and festive American tradition!
We appreciate everyone who is helping make the day special for our members. Your energy and commitment are what make Frenchman’s Creek shine—especially on big celebration days like this!
Don’t Drink and Drive This July 4th
T he Fourth of July is synonymous with increased impaired driving crashes. Over the July 4th holiday from 2019 to 2023, 2,653 people, including 1,679 drivers died in motor vehicle crashes—and 38% of drivers killed were drunk.
In an effort to reduce drunk driving crashes this Independence Day, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is promoting its “Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving” campaign. Local law enforcement and communities nationwide are also responding with increased DUI enforcement campaigns over the holiday.
Tips for Celebrating Safely and Avoiding Impaired Driving
Driving while under the influence is not only dangerous for the impaired driver; passengers, other motorists and pedestrians are put at serious risk, too. That’s why avoiding getting behind the wheel after drinking too much is important. Here are some tips to keep in mind to stay safe this Fourth of July : • Plan ahead for a sober ride home (e.g., choosing a designated driver or scheduling a ride-sharing or taxi service) if you plan to drink. • Let someone who hasn’t been drinking take you home, even if you’ve had only one drink. • Ensure plenty of nonalcoholic beverages are available if you’re hosting a Fourth of July gathering. • Take away the keys of and arrange a safe way for a friend who has been drinking to get home. • Pull over and call 911 if you see an impaired driver on the road. • Always wear your seat belt.
When in Doubt, Don’t Drive
Even a small amount of alcohol can affect your ability to drive safely. In 2023, 2,117 people died in alcohol-related crashes where a driver’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was between 0.01% to 0.07% —which is below the legal limit of 0.08% in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. If you’re feeling any effects of alcohol—or you’re questioning whether you should drive home—don’t take the chance.

LEADING WITH HOSPITALITY In alignment with our vision to provide industry-leading hospitality, this new section will feature practical tips and information to help you elevate the member experience, improve service delivery, and empower every team member to embody excellence.
Our community is built on personal relationships and exceptional member experiences. Nothing feels more personal than greeting members by name and remembering details about them and their families.
We asked Steve Krall, Food & Beverage Training Director, for his approach, advice, and tips for remembering members’ names.
Steve likes to connect with members with intention and meaning. He finds ways to make personal connections. One tip he uses is to connect a member to something familiar — for example, if a member is from his home state of Ohio. Steve remembers Mr. Donald King as the “King of Cleveland.” He also groups members by shared traits — for example, noting that we have 11 Miller families — and then uses individual preferences to ensure consistency in service and attention to detail. Steve likes to create categories, such as colors or flowers, to help him remember names.
But most importantly, Steve doesn’t just memorize members’ names — he attaches meaning to them in order to build trust and a sense of belonging.
Here are Steve’s tips, along with a few others:
While Steve’s approach is personal and works for him, learning member’s names with intention and meaning is the goal.

EMPLOYEE HANBOOK
HOLIDAYS
You must normally work on the day of the week the holiday falls and be a full-time employee to be eligible for holiday pay. All full-time employees are eligible to receive holiday pay the first day of employment only if they work the holiday. If you are a seasonal full-time or a regular full-time employee and you do not work a holiday, you will not be eligible to receive holiday pay. Eligible employees will receive a minimum of four (4) hours holiday pay or a maximum of eight (8) hours holiday pay with the total amount of hours based upon your normally scheduled shift for that day of the week. To be paid for a holiday if you don’t work the holiday, you must have worked the regular scheduled day immediately before and following an observed holiday. If you call in sick the day before or the day after the holiday, you will not receive holiday pay. If an observed holiday falls within a pre- arranged vacation, you will be paid for the holiday and will not be charged from your accumulated vacation. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, it will be observed on the previous Friday. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday. Full-Time Salaried (Exempt) Employees As a condition of their employment status, full-time salaried employees are expected to be available on an “as needed basis” by their supervisors. If this requires you to be available for work on a holiday honored by Frenchman’s Creek, you will receive time off for the holiday at a time when department business activity allows as determined by your supervisor. Full-Time Hourly (Non-Exempt) Employees If you are a full-time hourly employee and work on a holiday, you will be paid for the time actually worked, in addition to holiday pay.
